Great little museum set around a row of old butcher stalls and part of the Town Hall. Interesting displays about the local area including the prehistoric and early settlements, Bewdley's boom as a port town in Georgian times when the river was still navigable, local cottage industries and social history through different periods including exhibits on crime and punishment (old prison cells, handcuffs, stocks etc), the old horse-drawn fire pump and a WW2 air-raid shelter used by workers at the adjacent post office. Lovely gardens too, full of beautiful displays (including a number of Acers giving it a bit of a Japanese feel in places) and what looked like a nice cafe (though we didn't sample it as we"d already had fish & chips by the river. Read moreCame upon this unusual little museum by chance and spent an absorbing hour here. The staff were both welcoming and knowledgeable. The galleries and craft workshops are imaginatively housed in a former butcher's shambles. Lots of info covering the region's social and natural history and its traditional industries and occupations, along with artefacts, models and fun interactive displays for kids and adults alike. There's a lovely little garden at the back of the museum with a World War II air raid shelter and other historic features. The little café serves light snacks and cakes and there are also some toilets. Worth a browse round the shop too, some beautiful jewellery and ornaments as well as the usual toys and souvenirs. A great little discovery, well...
