A five-star culinary journey you’ll never forget!”
If you ever find yourself anywhere near Bewdley, stopping at The Rajah of Bewdley Kidderminster is not just a recommendation it’s a necessity. My family and I recently made a day of it, visiting the West Midlands Safari Park, and on our way home, we treated ourselves to a takeaway from this gem of a restaurant. What followed was one of the most unforgettable dining experiences we’ve had in a long time even from the comfort of our own table at home. From the moment my family walked in to collect our order, we were welcomed with warmth and professionalism. John, the manager, a true gentleman with over four decades in the curry trade, greeted us personally. His knowledge, charm, and passion for hospitality were obvious. He even showed my family their beautifully refurbished dining areas a luxurious ground-floor restaurant and a stunning private room upstairs that can host up to 16 guests. The private space had an elegant, boutique feel perfect for family celebrations or gatherings. That level of thought and detail already set the tone for what was to come.
Starters, We opened with the Samunda Ka Platter, an exquisite trio of Salmon, King Prawn, and Cod Pakoras. Each piece was cooked to perfection golden, crisp, yet meltingly tender inside. The seafood was fresh, lightly spiced, and beautifully balanced. Alongside this was the Raja Royal Platter a carnivore’s dream with Lamb Chops, Sheek Kebab, and Chicken Tikka. The lamb chops were succulent, charred with smoky perfection, the kebabs were juicy and bursting with spice, and the chicken tikka carried that rich depth of marinade that only comes from expertise honed over decades.
Mains, Every dish felt like a story told through spices. The Kala Beef Bhuna, a Bangladeshi classic, was rich, dark, and hearty each mouthful a reminder of the deep roots of traditional cooking. The Railway Lamb with Potatoes Curry was comfort food elevated to artistry: tender lamb, perfectly softened potatoes, and a sauce so moreish we found ourselves scraping our plate clean. The South Indian Garlic Chilli was fiery in the best way possible bold, unapologetic heat that danced with layers of garlic and spice, exactly as we had hoped. And then there was the Bihari Machli Jhul fish curry like no other, delicately spiced yet powerful, showcasing the kitchen’s mastery of balancing flavors without overwhelming the palate.
Accompaniments, No detail was overlooked. The Tarka Dal was fragrant, silky, and comforting the kind of dish that quietly steals the show. The Pilau Rice and Keema Pilau Rice were aromatic and fluffy, each grain separate and infused with just the right amount of seasoning. And the breads oh, the breads! The Keema Cheese Naan was indulgent, rich with perfectly seasoned lamb and molten cheese, while the Garlic Naan was everything a naan should be: soft, pillowy, and dripping with buttery garlic goodness.
Together, this spread was not just dinner. It was an experience, one that transported us far beyond takeaway, into the heart of a restaurant that clearly treasures authenticity, heritage, and passion.
The Legacy, What elevates The Rajah even further is its remarkable history. Established in the 1980s, this is not just a restaurant, it’s a name that has delighted generations for nearly five decades. Under John’s leadership and his exceptional team, the Rajah has been lovingly refurbished and reinvigorated, bringing elegance and refinement to every aspect of the dining journey.
Whether you’re dining in their luxurious new setting or enjoying a takeaway feast at home, The Rajah of Bewdley Kidderminster is more than just a curry house, it’s a celebration of heritage, flavours, and hospitality. Our experience was blown away, and I can say without hesitation: this is a must-visit. If you want to create memories, a fine dine-in experience, a moment to capture down memory lane, GO try Rajah of Bewdley. It's now time for you to...
Read morePossibly the best curry I’ve ever eaten! As a Birmingham resident I have eaten and cooked from scratch a fair number of curries. We were invited to try this restaurant by my parents who live locally. I booked a table as there were 6 of us. I got a lovely confirmation email. It was welcoming and told me that the restaurant wasn’t licensed and inviting me to bring my own alcohol. My family do not need telling twice! We were welcomed like old friends into a lovely clean, modern restaurant, and the toilets were very good, too! We were given glasses suited to the drinks we had bought, flutes, pint glasses and highball. The menus were expansive and clear. We ordered and were served quickly. Everything was freshly cooked and hot(temperature). We were asked when we wanted our mains, so did we want to wait, and were served quickly when we said we were ready. My parents had the shared fish starter which looked and tasted, I’m told fantastic. I didn’t try it but they polished it off quickly! Everyone was super happy with their mains, rice and naans. I’m sorry I didn’t take pictures or take notice of what we all ordered. I will just have to return to do a better job! Seriously, the food was amazing and possibly the best curry I’ve ever eaten. Big claim but don’t take my word for it, please go and try it for yourself. I think you...
Read moreBad food and worse management. We used for a takeaway whilst visiting family and was honestly the most watery, oily curry I have ever eaten. All 3 of the baltis we ordered were of the same standard. The family home was around a 20 minute drive away from the restaurant so we rang ahead and said we would collect. When we arrived I was told they were running late with my order so I paid upfront and then said I would pop to tesco and return to pick it up when they had got it ready. It finally came after another short wait after going to the shop and returning. When we got home and attempted what we could eat of the meal and my partners sister feeling sick we rang to complain about the food expecting the usual customer service response of a refund only to be told we didn't know what we were talking about and should either return with the food which was now in the bin and 20 minutes away or to have rang straight away which was exactly what we were doing. We were finally told to ring the next day when the manager would be available and we did, Only to be argued with again telling us that the reason for delay was because I went to tesco and that we won't be getting a refund. TERRIBLE MANAGEMENT, TERRIBLE FOOD and they will be missing out on regular orders from our family who live over that way. Stay...
