The Highland has become the absolute first place my husband and I check to see if a movie we want to see will be playing there soon. An old remodeled (well, a bit. To be fair, the first time you go it might look a bit worn down by the years, but that just adds to the charm and is quickly forgotten once all it's other excellent qualities begin to shine) playhouse, it only ever shows a single movie at a time. While the theatre has the normal movie style row seating options, it's the open tables with high stool and plenty of padded chairs in the back that I love. Due to a few health issues and a life of being a klutz (more bones have been broken then not), it had become almost impossibly painful to go to 'normal' theatres anymore. I just can't sit still for 2+ hours at a stretch in a cold room without needing to be practically carried out at the end of the movie (and I'm in my early 30's, it's just going downhill from here) so the ability to sit in comfort, to even have the option of putting my feet up if needed is a huge bonus. Since the Highland only ever shows one movie in it's one massive room at a time, I can get up at any point and walk up and down in the back without bothering anyone OR missing any of the film. And for nights when I'm well and truly miserably stiff, the ability to order a drink from the bar in the back is rather helpful too! Their sound system is excellent (They keep the sound in the back at a high enough level you can still hear dialog in the ladies room - so even that momentary duck out means you don't have to struggle to catch back up with what you missed), the bathrooms are clean, the tickets are cheap, the popcorn is hot, and the staff are...
Read moreBought advanced tickets for Black panther 2 . Couldn’t find a seat and when found one a lady informed me that she had tickets for 150 people so we would have to move. Never found a seat due to this and had to get a refund. Highly disappointed I had to go to another theater to see this movie. I am not sure why you just didn’t tell me you had sold out or had no more room for people because of this large party. I wasn’t aware you allowed parties to basically buy out the theater. I had came twice Wednesday and Thursday to buy advanced tickets and was told originally to come on Friday the day of the showing. The least you could’ve done was be honest and tell me mostly likely would not get a seat. Idk really know for a fact that those seats were reserved to begin with and not some lady just being rude. Please do better with your...
Read moreA great option in Highland Square, near lots of inexpensive restaurants that can make for a cheap dinner and movie night. The theatre only has one screen and they typically show the movie for at least a week or two. Tickets are always $5 and they take MoviePass, which is a huge plus. The concessions and bar are very reasonable for a movie theater and the popcorn is very good.
The screen itself is huge and picture quality is decent, but not as good as the Cinemarks nearby. Only real (and minor) downsides are that they leave on a neon sign in the back by the concession stand throughout the movie which is way too bright, and that some of the seats can be a bit uncomfortable from their age. Still one of my favourite movie theatres in Akron, especially when going with friends as we can all afford to see the movie and...
