Pros: Staff was nice
Cons: Elote did not have the traditional seasonings Elote corn was not grilled/roasted Elote corn was old and dry Birria had no flavor Small portions for big price tag Hide & Seek business
So let’s start off this review with the basics. Located down in Highland Square, you can find plenty of parking around there. No issues there (depending on time of day you go of course).
Signage out front, “Town Tacos”, there were a lot! However, we played a game of hide and seek to actually find it. Was it this door? No. Was it around the corner? No. Was it in Barmacy? Let’s go ask. Go inside and ask the bartender, “yeah it’s in here, go around that corner, I just seen the guy get here”. You mean to tell me they just got here at 3pm? When they’re supposed to be open and ready by 3pm? Not good.
With a sign outside barmacy that states “no one under 21” and we were traveling with our daughter, we were unsure whether or not we would be allowed in. However, Town Taco legitimately sits inside a cramped back hallway of Barmacy. The signage outside didn’t help at all direct us to where it was located, being first time goers, it would be hard to find it on your own.
We ordered a $47 meal which included fish tacos, steak tacos, birria and a sundae cup of elote. I’m a foodie and I love some birria and elote, but seeing as it was our first time here I limited myself to the “taste tester” version of their elote as we had never been.
We ordered our food and were told a 20 min wait.
45 mins later it was ready.
And we were the only ones there.
We take our food to go and try it at home.
Well. Elote was dry and old, no seasonings other than lime, mayo/sour cream, cheese, some cilantro and some onion. None of the typical seasonings that you find from traditional elote. Which was a huge let down for me.
My husband let me know that the fish taco was dry as the sand in the Sahara. No flavor just your cilantro and lime. His fish barely had any onions. Plus a side of tbsp salsa verde.
From his alone, it looks like Town Tacos relies heavily on salsas to do the flavoring and not actually seasoning the dishes themselves.
Our daughter’s steak taco was very well done and I don’t mean that in a good well done. No softness, no seasoning, no flavoring. Everything tasted the same. Show leather steak with no seasoning.
My birrias, my should have been flavorful birria tacos, were not at all. Dry shredded beef, soft tortillas (not even fried), and the birria juice was lacking in flavors much like everything else.
I can understand why this place has a 4.3 star rating due to the fact it relies heavily on drunken guests and not actual culinary connoisseurs. If I was 4 bourbons deep, I’m sure my rating would be...

Food: We got Birria, fish, steak tacos, and elote sundaes. Tacos were fairly mediocre - definitely had better from in the area. Steak was a little chewy and underseasoned. They asked if we wanted cheese and sour cream for the fish tacos, which immediately had my family looking at me since I suggested we try the place.
Honestly, the salsa verde that came with the tacos was so thin and watery, I thought it was a small cup of lime juice. (The limes were also fairly dry). Salsa Verde was also pretty flavorless. They also gave us these hand packets of hot sauce which I don't think should be served with tacos. They're the kind of cheap hot sauce packets that come in the bag with certain Hispanic snacks/chips from the corner store.
Elote sundaes are fairly small for the price. Corn was not fresh. Thought it was some sort of gravy or something - nope, corn was just gray. My family didn't even eat theirs.
Service: Phone call was pretty standard. Food was ready at quoted time. Interaction was short so I can't say much for the service.
Atmosphere is small. It's a window tucked away in the Barmacy - which should be stated on all the posters they have outside since it would save a bit of...
Read moreFirst of all when I went to pick up our order, the atmosphere was very sketchy. Then when I went to go get my order from the back of the building, very awkward I was told that my order has been picked up by someone I then proceeded to give them my phone with my order and order number A Caucasian woman and a Caucasian man then proceeded to tell me that it was nothing they can do because the order was picked up. My son entered the establishment to talk to them to see a video and maybe call the police. Then they proceeded to say that they were going to make the order over they did not show us any video of this alleged man that picked up our order then they proceeded to say wait 10 minutes for them to make it over when we receive the order. It was gross made sloppily tasteless then the Caucasian man disrespected me and my child by saying racial slurs to us I think it’s so disrespectful and sad that a professional establishment will treat their customers as we were treated tonight. I warn anybody do not eat here. Do not go here if you are a person of color because I do not think that we are very welcome I will not be eating here ever I hope whoever is the owner that they will change because this racism has to stop and you will lose a lot of...
