
Today (Monday September 19) the Olympic pool was closed, but there were no notices about that until swimmers got to the door of the pool. The Johnson pool was offered, but the swim team was practicing, so there was only one lane available. Before I got in, I told the guard I'd need help getting out, since the ladder is too steep for me (I have to use the stairs at the Olympic pool.) When I was ready to get out, I was not offered the chair that lifts swimmers out of the pool. So I struggled to use the ladder. Got stuck. Some people came to help, but with my injuries, I wasn't able to grab their arms. Please post on the outside entry doors of Johnson Center when the pool is closed. Read moreI'm a graduate student at UNM. Johnson gym works fine for my needs of lifting weights, running and biking. I occasionally will go swimming. They have two pools. The Olympic one has diving boards and a therapy pool. They have a good variety of free weights and machines. A pretty good amount of cardio machines (2 stair masters). The down side about this is during the semester there isn't a lot of open times for lifting weights but you can go cardio whenever you want. You can rent out lots of things, like towels if you want to shower. Lots of construction...

With a valid student ID, you have access to many utilities, even a free rentable daily locker and gym towel. Since it's part of your UNM tuition , make use of it! Why pay for another membership? Of course, there are busy hours at times (5-6pm), but if fitness is your priority you will make zero excuses and make it work. Although it's hard to find a squat rack at times, just speak up and join someone's set. You have a great resource....
