While visiting Texas, I had some free time and decided to take a License to Carry (LTC) class to learn about Texas laws on the use of force and concealed carry guidelines. The registration process was straightforward online. I packed my pistol, flew into DFW, and headed straight to the range. Upon arrival, I was immediately impressed by the range’s clean and modern appearance. It’s clear the staff takes pride in maintaining the facility. At the front desk, I was greeted warmly and instructed to complete a quick, two-minute liability waiver via a QR code, which was very convenient. The classroom was modern and well-equipped. I was introduced to the instructor, CPT Taggart, a tall man with a 1911 on his hip who welcomed me with typical Texas hospitality. He handed out the course materials and a dinner menu, explaining that students are responsible for their meal costs, and that they hold onto your driver’s license until payment is settled. With only four students, likely due to it being a midweek, late afternoon class, the setting felt intimate and conducive to learning. CPT Taggart taught in a highly engaging and informative manner, thoroughly covering Texas laws and illustrating their application with real-world scenarios. After a couple of hours in the classroom, we moved on to the shooting qualification. This part of the course evaluated each student’s ability to safely and confidently handle a firearm, demonstrating the level of proficiency required by the Texas Department of Public Safety. It’s important to note that participants should be familiar with basic firearm operation before attending. Following the qualification, we returned to the classroom for a working dinner, continuing the lesson to maximize our time. CPT Taggart didn’t rush through the material; in fact, he extended the class by 30 minutes to ensure we covered everything in detail. We finished with a 25-question test, and all four of us passed. The entire course was time well spent, with no moments wasted. CPT Taggart provided comprehensive and engaging content that kept me fully attentive for the entire six-hour class. It was fascinating to learn about Texas laws, which differ from those in my home state. Although I’m already authorized to carry in Texas from another state, I believe in understanding the specific laws wherever I travel to avoid any legal issues. For instance, after the class, I was able to correctly identify a legally posted “no carry” sign at a private business and returned to my vehicle to secure my firearm in the safe. Overall, CPT Taggart and the staff were professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. The range itself was a pleasure to shoot at, and I will definitely be returning for additional training in the future. This class is a valuable experience for anyone looking to understand Texas LTC requirements and firearm laws thoroughly.

I've been coming here for years, been a loyal customer and directed plenty of business their way. However, after discount Steve Aoki implied we were going to leave without paying our tab, I'm never coming back. I've gotten into the habit of leaving my license to carry instead of my drivers license because sometimes accidents happen (and have happened here before) and the employees at the gun range forgets to give us our ID back after we've paid. My preference is to not drive illegally to pick it back up, hence the license to carry. That said, this time we were told to leave a drivers license instead. Again normally no big deal, we tried to explain why we prefer to leave our license to carry, only to be told that they are only taking drivers licenses because they want their customers to pay... Implying you will be robbed by long-time customers isn't a good look, doubling down isn't either. Past that it doesn't even make sense, if I left my state issued license to carry at a range with cameras everywhere, it would be open-and-shut case if I left without paying. Plus who the hell robs a range/gun store in Texas??? Also their rules posted on their website (see attached photo), just require a government-issue photo ID. Which, by the way, a license to carry is a government issued photo ID. Just sad to see an amazing range ruined by one bad manager.

The staff there is extremely friendly and super helpful! I took my daughter there on a father / daughter date before she left for college. She had been wanting to experience firing a handgun in a controlled environment like this for quite awhile, so she could be a little more comfortable around them. We shot my S&W .40, and I must say, she made me a proud Dad. I was very impressed with how well she handled that .40 on her first time shooting. I've included photos of her targets. I appreciate how they let you bring your own gear, and whatever you don't have up to and including the guns, if need be, you can rent there. I would recommend it to anybody and I definitely plan to return. Texas Legends, thanks for a great evening with my daughter!

The facility was conveniently located less than 20 minutes from my house, in McKinney. It's modern and clean. There's a nice, big, and clean women's restroom! I took the handgun course, as I wanted to get familiar with shooting them mainly for the purposes of home defense. I've already had a lot of experience with long guns during my time serving in the military. The instructor Jose was great, a natural teacher. I learned a lot in the course, and am happy and satisfied with my decision to attend a course like this. I definitely recommend it to new handgun owners. The range is well lit and modern. I felt comfortable in it, being this was my first time in an indoor range (I'm used to outdoor ranges).

There were a few awkward experiences outside of the course. When I first arrived, I went to a desk and informed a staff member I was there for the handgun course, he pointed to where the instructor was and said I could first read and fill out the waiver. So, while I was filling out the waiver, he said he was surprised I was there early (15 mins before class). Said his girlfriend runs on BPT. At first it didn't click--but then I determined he meant black people time. I'm black, he's not.

I then went over to where the instructor was, along with some other students who had gotten there early, too. The instructor pointed to where class would be, and said that we'd start at 1pm, that we had a little time and could browse around the store until then. So, I started browsing just to waste time until class start. A lady staff member walked up to me when I was browsing and asked if I was finding everything ok. I said yep, I was just browsing, waiting for class to start. Then it was just an awkward, unnatural experience of her pointing out t-shirts on the wall that "ladies usually like," and that oh she just came out here to see what she needed to stock. Everything looked fine and dandy to me, didn't look like stocking was needed. I just think with that situation some improvement in customer service training is needed. I understand a good way to connect with customers is to find something to relate to, but don't do it in such an awkward way, lol.

I had a very brief interaction with the owner, it was cool to see her on premises.

Something else, when I was heading back to the classroom from a bathroom break, I saw a group of men at the front counter with bright colored Hawaiian shirts on and long gun carrying bags. And first, thought oh cute a bachelor party or something. But then remembered that's the getup for an extremist group. Yikes

Overall, the instructor and course great--5 stars! Facilities and range—5 stars. The staff could use some people training--2 stars. And, yeah there's nothing they can do about extremist groups at their facilities, unless something bad...

My wife and I took the 'Beginning Pistol' class, and we loved it! The class instructor was Mike, and he is perfect for the job. His presentation was calm, clear and informative -- and included a bit of good humor and lessons from many years of experience. The content of the class was split evenly between actual classroom time and range time. The classroom time was not simply theory, buts hands-on familiarity with the handgun you would use on the range, and safety. The range time involved firing 50 rounds under Mike's (and a colleague's) helpful oversight. I'm a military retiree who once qualified as 'expert' for marksmanship, but haven't fired round in over twenty years and wanted a basic refresher. My wife had never before fired any type of weapon. We were both so impressed that we bought a 'couple' membership afterward.

Subsequent to the above post (mid-December 2023), we took our 'License to Carry (classroom and qualification)' class today. Our instructor was Greg, who is also perfect for the job! His presentation was appropriately full of action: practical scenarios and helpful anecdotal stories designed to impress your mind to permanent memory. My wife and I love this place. As a military retiree, I always feel like I'm among kin; and my wife as a new weapon handler is totally confident and shooting better than me--thanks to great staff instruction!

We've continued shooting regularly, but felt the need to increase our knowledge and skills. Our third formal training was held 25 April, a 2.5 hour class on Intermediate Skill-level Handgun. The lead instructor was Mike (see earlier) and the observer was Eric. The theme was 'defensive' handgun training, and thus developed naturally from the beginning pistol class. The training time was a good mix of classroom-range-classroom instruction, going over practical ways to use your handgun most effectively in defensive situations and to clear potential handgun malfunctions. To me and my wife, this training was essential!

Wow, yet another great training session from Texas Legends Gun Range! This time, we (my wife and I) decided to branch out a bit and get educated on a new subject for us -- handgun optics. TLGR hosts a monthly Saturday morning session led by Noah, who is a master in the subject. He walked us through the very basics of optics--101 level which we appreciated--how 'sighting' works, how to acquire the red dot 'sight' and use it repeatedly, how to acquire the dot from a holster draw, and more advanced skills such as moving from one target distance to another. We really appreciate TLGR not only for being a great shooting range, but also for excellent...
