This gem is tucked away in the same lot as "Udder Bar" in downtown Allentown. The owners and staff welcome you like family from the moment you walk in the door. Cat lovers rejoice in the over 40 cat themed wine choices, but also the simple, yet delicious food offerings. What fan of these four legged furry creatures would not fall in love with a pairing of their favorite wine and a "Catsadilla"? (A delicious quesadilla cut into the shape of a cats head, with the addition of toppings creating an adorable face.) The decor is welcoming and comfortable, with photos of the cats whom the many wines theme come from. While the tasting room seems small, fitting around 30 people at a time, they have additional space in their connected event/party room. This space can be rented out with catering from anywhere, as well as a sommelier serving wine for private parties. They hold many events from fundraisers, to trivia, to karaoke, painting, comedy and more. In addition to enjoying a nice drink or snack, know that they always donate a portion of proceeds ( 50 cents per glass, and $1 per bottle) toward their monthly foundations (Local rescues, vet clinics, and more). This urban winery may not grow their own grapes, however they have received many awards locally and nationally. Despite the title "Sleepy Cat Urban Winery" this is not a locations to sleep on. Stop in and try a tasting and fall in love with the...
Read moreThe low rating pertains to the one wine I tried. Place itself was cute for a small town local place. Employees were nice.
Their Starry Slumber red wine was not good. There was a very chemical smell as soon as the bottle was opened, on the cork, and the wine itself had a very chemical forward taste and aftertaste. I was pretty excited to try this local option, but given the weird taste, the entire bottle was unfortunately a wash.
Im not sure if this was just a problem for this bottle. I had bought 6 bottles (various types) and gifted all but this (the one I wanted for myself). I was told this was an offdry, slightly sweet, fruit forward red, but it definitely wasn't right.
I didn't ask those I gifted the wine bottles to if theirs were ok. Honestly too embarrassed to ask them.
Pretty reluctant to try anything else at this point, but maybe if someone else wants to stop by their winery and I happen to be with them, Ill give it another shot....
Read moreEverytime we stop in we have a wonderful time! Lots of laughs overall feeling of complete welcomness to every customer and super attentive staff. Not like the uptight wineries of the lehigh valley. Sleepy cat is by far the most relaxed professional winery with something new every month not to mention the events that they host are so much fun! What they do for community including the fundraising is by far more superior than any small business ive seen here in valley. Wine is always delicious and atmosphere is exceptional for friends and family. I highly recommend to anyone who loves wine and may be looking for a nice start to a date night, an after dinner glass, co worker meet up, or a night to get out when you want to listen to a local band or help raise funds for various shelters and causes while enjoying some awesome wine! From dry to sweet this place will...
