This park is a must-visit for families!

The sprayground is simply amazing. Some splash pads have a handful of features, but Altavista really went above and beyond choosing a whole variety of elements to enjoy. Thankfully this site has something for kids of all ages. I saw many tiny toddlers enjoying the smaller water sprayers at a safe distance away from the huge drenching bucket, and I saw a lot of big kids getting their full of excitement going through rings of water spraying at them, and spinning other features to direct water at their friends. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲. 👍

We went to English Park before it's recent renovation, and one of the things I loved about it was the unique wooden playground equipment. I was so excited to see that some of the uniqueness I loved from before was carried into the new design, with a wooden bridge, a tunnel underneath it, and a huge mound of rocks and wood chips all around it. Essentially, you have a fairly safe area for your little outdoor enthusiasts to feel like they're on a miniature adventure on their own.

Directly beside that unique area is a beautiful metal and plastic set of playground equipment with the latest bits of playground ingenuity that you'll find on many playgrounds in bigger cities. For Altavista to pour so much money, effort, and love into this is truly a gift to all of Campbell County and beyond.

There are also swings for kids of all abilities, there is a web climbing feature, and there are basketball courts here, which are great for the older kids.

𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗹𝘆 𝗧𝗶𝗽𝘀:

As with any playground there are plenty of opportunities to get hurt, so make sure you bring along a first-aid kit for your family. Our kids got hurt way more than usual on the wood chips/mulch as well as the rope area of the web climbing feature. In the future, I'll probably bring lightweight pants to throw on them after playing in the sprayground, and once the weather cools down if they're wearing thick jeans they'll probably get hurt way less than they did on the opening weekend of the splashpad.

The bathrooms are in good condition, but they get gross quickly, so plan to try and avoid them. Thankfully they're there if you or your child really needs it though. 😬

Arrive to the splashpad with plenty of water and sunscreen! I didn't see a drinking fountain anywhere, but it's possible...

Founded in 1907, Altavista owes its existence to the construction of the Virginian Railway, which established a crucial stop in this location. The town was purposefully planned and developed alongside the railroad, which shaped its early growth and commercial activity. For most of the 20th century, Altavista's identity was synonymous with the Lane Company, a massive furniture manufacturer established in 1912. The company became famous for its iconic cedar chests and grew into a dominant force in the furniture industry, serving as the town's primary employer and the bedrock of its economy for generations. Following the closure of the Lane Company factory, Altavista has worked to diversify its economic base. Today, the town's largest employer is a significant Abbott Nutrition facility, which produces a range of nutritional products and provides stable employment for the region. The local economy is further supported by manufacturing companies like BGF Industries, which produces high-performance textiles, alongside various small businesses that cater to the town and surrounding Campbell County. This transition reflects a shift from a single-industry town to a more varied and resilient economic model. Life in Altavista is characterized by its small-town charm and its connection to the natural landscape. Nestled along the Staunton River, the town offers residents access to outdoor activities through community spaces like English Park, which features boat launches, walking trails, and sports facilities. This blend of a quiet, community-focused lifestyle with a steady industrial presence defines modern Altavista, making it a representative example of a small Virginia town that honors its industrial past while adapting...

This is a beautifully landscaped park located off the beaten path in southern Virginia- picturesque is how I would describe it.It has hills and the greenest grass - one has to pause just to take to take in all the scenery. There is a shelter - more like a large gazebo located on top of a mound. My family member & I were able to drive carefully up the the shelter carefully joining others for a cookout. There was a breeze blowing even though a grill was going nearby as well as fish frying. There are picnic tables as well as big containers for trash. It was refreshing just to take in all the fresh air and beautiful scenery. We carefully made our way down the mound with no problems. There is a wet area for children & the young at heart.Noticeable there is a larger occupied shelter on the other side of the park. There is also a lake on the park for other water activities. So beautiful- this gem is tucked away in Altavista Va near Greta Va & about 30 miles from Lynchburg Va.More photos next time we visit this...
