Mac Star Computers and Camera Store — Attraction in Anaheim

Buyer Beware. This company appears to be less than honest. On November 27th I purchased an Atomos Ninja V for $499.99, and I was charged an exorbitant shipping fee of 64.99. Although that was a very high fee for such a small lightweight item, I decided to overlook it because I was anxious to get the monitor.

Fast forward one week and, and I doubled back to patronize these guys instead of a larger brand like B&H, and instead of providing good customer service to a returning customer, they decided to try the old switch and bait. On their website they have the Nanlite Forza 300b listed for $939.99 despite the fact that it's listed for $655 everywhere else. So with that in mind I called and spoke with Ron in hopes of confirming the actual price of the light. After checking Ron notified me that the light was indeed $655. However once he confirmed the amount, he stated that another team member would be assisting me with the actual purchase.

This is were the plot thickens! The lady that he said would help me attempted to quickly charge me $699.99 for the light instead of the price quoted by Ron. After I pointed out the discrepancy in price, she then went on to claim that she had to check with their distributor to see if (the light that she was just about to charge me for) was actually available in stock. Totally dishonest and unethical. They actually lost out on lots of future busines from me for a measly $45 bucks.

Update: No where in my review did I complain about any fee that the Lease to own company charges. I am fully aware of all fees involved in that I strategically and successfully use and pay out my leases within a 90 day period. It's called leveraging. My review is not written out of anger, it was written out of concern for unsuspecting buyers that are unaware of your shady busines practices. Your company did not give me an option to decide if I wanted or needed a 2 day shipping option. You simply overcharged me for a service that I did not ask for.

In addition, you have not addressed the overall concern of my review. Between your website and employees, I received 3 different price quotes for the exact same light listed for sale in your store ($939, $699, and according to Ron $655). You guys are worse than car salesmen when it comes to dishonest pricing.

Lastly, you should be ashamed of yourself for trying to shame someone for using a lease to own option since you guys regularly prey on unsuspecting customers with your $1 down, good credit bad credit, buy now pay later schemes. Your scams are shamelessly all on your You Tube, Facebook and Instagram for all to see.

In the future I will stick with more reputable companies like B&H and Adorama. According to the young girl I spoke with earlier, its probably where you guys were attempting to backorder the light for me from...

If you want to buy PC components from this place then don't. I was going to finance but instead I was just going to pay cash. I went to them asking if they can get certain parts for a PC build I'm doing and they said they could get them from their "supplier". I told them to let me know the prices and get back to me. I compared their prices to other known PC stores like Newegg and Microcenter. I even went on Amazon to check. I couldn't believe the inflated prices. If you look up the words "rip-off" in the dictionary I'm pretty sure you'll see the Mac Star Logo on there. Average price of Newegg, Microcenter, and Amazon was around $3000-$3100 after taxes. Macstar total price was $3700!!!!! Now tell me, who in their right mind with a hint of common sense would go through and do a purchase like that. I took the numbers back to my company and we literally laughed so loud that we had to look at the numbers 3x to make sure it wasn't a joke. Covid is over. Prices shoud not be over retail. Even if you get approved for financing there s no way. Look folks, before you go here make sure you do your research on the product you want and make sure the pricing is on par with what Mac Star is selling. If you view their name backwards it spells out RATSCAM. Coincidence? Or just a sign to keep away? You be the judge. I'm pretty sure the owner and employees are going to come up with some clever reply to dissuade this review but don't believe in the manipulation. Just good old fashioned used car salesmen selling electronic products for more then what is on the market. For reference I've include the parts and comparisons below in an Excel spreadsheet. You can look it up yourself. Numbers don't lie.

Edit 5/7: They answered my review by correcting my math and I admit i calculated wrong but even after the new pricing on their end they’re still more expensive then what the stores sell it...

My iPad screen was frozen and I was not able to navigate. I'd tried bunch of YouTube tutorial but no luck. I was hoping to avoid a trip to the Apple store at the nearby mall. I found this place just by luck. I stepped-in and was immediately greeted. There was another customer ahead so I waited patiently and made small talk regarding cameras and accessories. Though I was not there for cameras it was good and helpful information. After Naz completed assisting the customer ahead of me, it was my turn. I explained to him my problem and he began troubleshooting. In the meantime, I carried own my conversation about the cameras. In less than 45 seconds Naz had figured out the problem. He resolved my issues under 1 minute. Now I will definitely be returning for cameras and PC related issues to this store. No more geek squad or the Apple store for me...this will be my one-stop shop.
