Under new ownership in the summer of 2023. Customer service is courteous, cheerful, and eager to help without being overbearing.
It's a medium sized Asian grocery store that focuses on Korean and Japanese products. Their stock is fresh and the store is clean. They have plenty of bagged salty snacks and packaged sweet items, and now they have a whole restaurant in the front corner of the store with carryout and tables to eat right there. They offer some sushi and kimbap premade in the cooler for people to help themselves. Their produce cases are well stocked and the items are rotated regularly so everything is fresh. They have a fairly comprehensive selection of fresh produce that covers most of the items that you couldn't get in a large supermarket, but it's not extensive. It's generally a safe bet that you'll find what you're looking for, if you're looking for Japanese or Korean produce that isn't usually available at a non-Asian grocery. Prices are in line with other grocery stores. They have an extensive freezer section with lots of ready to cook Korean and Japanese items. Prices are not always clearly marked, which is a problem as I'm unwilling to buy anything without knowing the price in advance. I don't even bother bringing things to the register if I can't find a price. That had not been a problem at Galleria Market, but on a recent trip I encountered numerous items with no clear price on the shelf.
It's always been a nice store. Under the new management it's even nicer.
They added a restaurant inside the store called Korner Kitchen that serves a mix of modern Japanese and Korean dishes and has quite good sushi too. The prices are average but the food is particularly good, fresh,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy family recently moved to Ann Arbor from Iowa and we're happily surprised to find an Asian market so close to (our new) home. With a variety of stock we could find everything (if not almost everything) we wanted for meals.
When Covid-19 hit the US Galleria Market took early precautions to protect themselves as well as their customers. With the aggressive progression of Covid-19, Galleria Market has continued to take safety measures to protect not only themselves but also thier customers. They have turned to an online order and, pick up by appointment model. This has been an attempt to keep the employees as well as the customers safe. I as a paying customer I appreciate the painstaking precautions that the store is taking.
Instructions for shopping can be found on Facebook page along with tips on how to help expedite the process. As of the time of this review the owners have made it clear that they are not comfortable opening the store to shoppers until there are zero new cases for a minimum of two weeks. As this is a family own business I do not think it's unreasonable. They need to keep themselves safe as they do not have the backing of a huge chain store.
My family and I will gladly continue to place online orders and pick up by appointment to keep this wonderful store in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe reviewer who said that she did not get the assistance she wanted from the old lady in the store needs to understand that many authentic Asian markets are owned or managed by those with limited English. It may or may not be a drawback, but it simply has to be dealt with. I find that the fluency of the older staff or owners are in indirect proportion to the level of willingness and good customer service. I don't speak a word of Korean, so I try not to ask too many questions or speak too fast if I need help from someone of an older generation. Both the older and the younger man there are fluent in English, though.
This store is little gem - authentic Korean cold dishes, MUCH better prices than Asian food suppliers on Amazon, friendly and efficient service, good location, reasonable hours. The owner was even nice enough to offer a discount if I buy in bulk. It is cleaner and brighter and in these respects more welcoming than Hua Xing market on Washtenaw (though they both offer excellent and comparable customer service, a lost art in America), but the two stores do not offer the same goods so I frequent both. Galleria has more Japanese foodstuffs, for example. It also has the cutest...
