My family and I have been on path of The Freedom Riders this whole week and stopped in Anniston to visit the sites were young people on buses were attacked and feared for their lives as violent mobs gathered to hurt them. Here in Anniston, AL there are 2 stops because there were 2 buse that entered the town 1 hour behind each other and were both attacked by angry mobs at 2 different locations. Read moreWe arrived after the visitor center was closed but were so lucky to run into a man who gave us the NPS brochures and said that he was involved in setting up the National Monuments here and in Birmingham. He told us to listen to the recording of Hank Thomas on the metal post outside, which he recorded. It was very informative and moving to learn about these extremely brave civil rights activists.
