So glad that we bought a 2nd day ticket so we could thoroughly enjoy our day at Antler Hill. We didn't have children with us, but it would be a lot of fun & very interesting for the kids to check out the animals (horses, chickens, goats) and get some exercise at the playground. The village is quaint, well taken care of, and very beautiful! There are many restaurants, taverns, gift shops & a wonderful museum about the life of the Vanderbilts. We spent a couple of hours there reading every word, chatting with the informative staff & viewing the film before leaving. It really is a must visit. It may even be wise to go to Antler HIll to visit it the museum before visiting the mansion. Either/or it puts everything in perspective. We spent a couple of hours going through the original stables, watching/chatting with the blacksmith (he's awesome), watching/chatting with the broom maker (he's so sweet) & watching another interesting/informative film about life at that time. There are many old-fashioned games for kids to play inside & outside of the stables. We took a walk down to the river, but didn't have time to walk the miles of walking/riding paths along the river. Many bike riders were taking advantage of the pathways. We will definitely make time on...
Read moreI love traveling, meeting new people and finding exciting places to visit. I'm always taking my best friend along for the ride. We're pass holders with Biltmore and visit often. The Antler Hill barn overlooks the French Broad river and the rustic farm architecture takes me back to stories told by my late Grandmother, who was born around 1930. She told of the old Model-T car, tractors, horses and wagons. They have a variety of old equipment used in the early days. It's a great way to incorporate that knowledge into this generation of how early life was for the surrounding areas. keeping everyone grounded in our roots and heritage is a great way to grow together as a community. They have a bonfire pit, allow weddings and rehearsals to be done. One of my favorite things is that they have some old games that everyone should check out if...
Read moreI just loved the old barn and Americana. I grew up on a Wisconsin dairy farm in the 70's and so much of this was still very familiar to me or reminded me of my grandfather. All of the displays are living and you can get up close and touch them all. Go watch the blacksmith create something, get up close to history. It costs nothing to see, but is full of...
