Curated Consignment Boutique — Attraction in Asheville

I can only speak from my own experience – and consigning through Curated Consignment Boutique was a huge disappointment for me. Over several months I dropped many pieces off, some sold and some didn't as is to be expected. When the time came for me to pick up my unsold items, unexpectedly, several pieces had gone missing. When I was in the store picking up my unsold clothing, there were numerous pieces unaccounted for, but the person who had pulled my items said that that was all there was and there wasn't anything else for me to pick up. I kept scrupulous notes of what I had dropped off, and what had sold, so I knew that was not the case. As I was standing there being told I had everything, within arm’s reach I found an Eileen Fisher dress that I had dropped off, so I knew something was wrong. When I dropped my pieces off, I was assured the store had a rigorous tracking system to make sure they knew what they had in stock, but this is not the case in my experience. I did reach out to the owner, and a few days later, some of my pieces had turned up, but I'm still missing three items. I had a further issue when I learned that two of my items had been donated. None of my items should have been disposed of, as I was meticulous about checking in with dates to make sure that did not happen. Ultimately, three pieces have simply disappeared, and after the initial contact with the owner I have heard nothing since*. This is upsetting, because the fact that they accepted these pieces in the first place signals that these were good pieces. And I don't mind when things don't sell, that is absolutely normal, but it is not good practice to lose items completely, or not track inventory carefully. That is my experience as someone who's trying to consign items.

As a buyer (and this is why I am giving two stars rather than one), CCB do have some nice pieces at appropriate prices. The owner is knowledgeable and discerning. I’m sure a buyer would have a net positive experience. As a seller though, overall a sad...

I have been a consigner with Linden now named Curated Consignment from day one. This is truly a special place. Clients and anyone who visits are treated well, with kindness, personal interest and joy. The store is clean, well-organized, easy to navigate and the staff knows the inventory well and works hard to match client needs with inventory. The name Curated also represents that they are a level up from the average consignment store. Items are carefully picked, from quality labels, clean and in excellent condition - many with tags still on them and unworn. They are beautifully displayed, and featured displays are changed frequently. The staff is very clear on what is accepted or not - and if not - will many times (if possible) provide suggestions as to other places that might be a better fit for that item. Vanessa King, owner, has worked hard to elevate this store, with clearly defined consignment policies and guidelines, ways to work with clients over time to help clean out their closets of treasures and having staff work with clients to help them find new pieces or dreeam attire for that trip, date or special event. My friend and I had the most outstanding shopping experience of our long lives here (120 years, collectively). Saleswoman Sharon gave generously of her time, fashion expertise and sense of style, and we left with two stunning, flattering dresses and five tops. Ashevillians and visitors, run, don’t walk to Curated Consignment, and ask for Sharon or any of her colleagues. (We saw the owner, Vanessa, giving the same treatment to another person while we were there. Obviously part of their business culture.) And don’t forget, wearing vintage is not only stylish and fun—it’s also good for the environment.
