Green Sage Cafe is a healthy, eco friendly, restaurant with three locations in Asheville. I was on my way to the Biltmore to go see their Christmas celebration, so stopped by the one on Hendersonville Road in South Asheville for Sunday brunch before my excursion to see the festivities.
The South Asheville local is in a small shopping complex so there’s plenty of parking.
They have both outdoor (presumably pet friendly) seating as well as an abundance of indoor bar & table seating; and some fun little nooks by the windows too.
Make sure to check out the cute greeting cards and mech for sale when you first walk in, by the counter where you place your order. They have a neat program where if you use a reusable travel mug for your drink; they’ll donate 20 cents every time to charity. I’m not sure if it has to be one of their own “Green Sage” mugs or not - but I suggest buying one anyway because one can never have too many travel mugs to travel with! Plus, the mugs are also great for Holiday gifts - why not pick one up with a greeting card by the counter while you order your meal for easy holiday shopping?
I plan on getting one for my manager at my day job so she doesn’t say anything when I eat tuna fish sandwiches in the lobby.
Green Sage Cafe offers a large selection of organic/all natural/local food to choose from like rice bowls, avocado toast, burgers (made with meat from Hickory Nut Gap Farns), and much more.
I couldn’t decide on the avocado toast or the wild lox sandwich, but with some help from the nice guy that took my order - I decided on the Lox Sammich and a Fresh Squeezed Juice.
After you order they’ll give you a place-card so they can find your table and bring your food over. The place card holder I was given had an adorable baby tiger on it.
My meal came out relatively quick & the Lox Sandwich was very yummy, and super fresh with loads of wild salmon, avocado slices, tomatoes, lettuce & onions, on a healthy/light, yet flavorful multigrain bun type thing topped with some savory sauce that added just the right amount of flavor to it.
The fresh squeezed “Immune Tune” juice that I had was the perfect addition to my meal, and made fresh to order. It was definitely just the right ratio fresh squeezed juices, turmeric, and ginger (a difficult combination to master). I would suggest drinking the Immune Tune out of a straw, since theirs lots of orange stuff in it - it will temporarily dye your lips. I went in the bathroom after my meal and immediately applied lipgloss after looking in the mirror; in fear that Gene Wilder might come and kidnap me and force me to work in his Candy Factory, wear a jumpsuit uniform with odd suspenders, and not pay a live-able wage.
Anyway - my favorite part of Green Sage is that they’re very serious about their eco print and make it easy for the customer to participate too. After you bus your own table, you can easily sort your leftovers and trash into separate labeled bins for compost, recycling, etc.!
Before you leave, make sure you check out the ‘Underwater Photography’ by Dr. John Highsmith. The exhibition is on display through December and features many of his dazzling, ethereal...
Read moreHow was my experience at Green Safe Cafe South this morning in Ashville, NC? One word " Devine". Why this word? Because the whole business is geared to bring health, support the local vibrant community, with nutrient rich, chemical free, 95% organic locally farmed, and pure food to nourish the body. This sounds like the perfect place everyone would want to dine at and heavenly. Though my experience wasn't surrounded by angels the staff were very friendly, personable, and served exceptional high quality all natural food in a timely manner.
When I came up to the front door I could see tables and chairs out front for dining but it was little chilly this morning to try. I could also see right away the business stance on political matters because the windows/ doors had opinion statements in them. When I opened the front door the first thing I see 👀 is a long display of cookies, muffins, and yummy pastries. To the left was a cooler full of in-house cold pressed drinks with all natural ingredients made in house to enjoy. I chose the immune booster that was delicious btw. I just looked at the many assortment and options on the breakfast to lunch menu mounted on the wall high above the counter. Thinking to myself what can I have that is gluten free on this menu? Wait ✋. Everything on this menu is gluten free, dairy free, and all natural. I squilled with glee inside because this is a rare occasion in most cities in the U.S I have traveled. I quickly catch my eye on pancakes because most restaurant don't have gluten free pancakes. As I read my options to get in my pancakes I just say " everything and the kitchen sink" to the server. She was a little surprised so she made sure I wanted banana 🍌, blueberries 🫐, and granola on my pancakes. I said " absolutely with two scrambled eggs and hashbrowns too". I paid and went to look for a seat it was still early so many seats were available at the time. As I walked by the extended out windows I spotted a wood 🪵table with a log for the base and nicely sanded wood top with polyurethane on it with two comfy chairs. As I sat down I looked around the room everything was clean, comfy, and a holistic feel of the place.
As my food came out my eyes lit up from glee and it looked amazing. The banana, blueberries, granola pancakes were heavenly. I highly recommend this combination 👌. The eggs 🥚 you could tell from the taste they were fresh farm 🚜 eggs because I grew up eating them. Then the hashbrowns. I'm am not sure of all the ingredients but wow they taste good my taste buds were on overdrive savoring every bite. I have to admit my eyes 👀 were bigger than my stomach but wow it was good.
If you are in Ashville or just passing through I highly recommend stopping at the restaurant for breakfast or lunch you won't be disappointed I promise.

Read moreHi! I just visited today and had an awful experience. I take care of my little brother and I took him to eat with me, so I'm carrying him the whole time. When I first walk into the restaurant and up to the counter, the cashier kind of just looks at me but doesn't say anything and then walks away for a second just taking her time before coming back to me, no sense of urgency even though I am carrying a 30 lbs toddler on my hip. I order an avocado BLT, the sandwich and I end up receiving a wrap which is not what I wanted. It was still good but I was looking forward to the sandwich. She didn't really communicate with me and just kind of set the number on top of the counter for me. When she brought me my food, she didn't say anything or ask if I needed anything else but when she brought food to the people sitting next to me she asked if they needed anything else very sweetly even though they did not have a child with them that they can't leave alone...so I wasn't able to get any water while I was there because I can't leave my brother alone. And when he starts getting restless and is ready to go, I get up and organize my things on the table (I am not worried about anyone touching my wallet at this establishment, everyone is very to themselves.) I go to the front counter to ask for a to go box. There is a girl with long hair working on a to go order for a customer sitting at the bar. She looks at me and doesn't say a word. When she hands the order to the customer, she just walks past me like I haven't been waiting there for several minutes. The other cashier is nowhere to be found. Eventually I just take the Togo boxes myself and there is a "boxes aren't self serve" sign but if you don't want customers to grab them, maybe attend to them. I work in customer service and this was just awful. It's already stressful enough having to take care of a child by yourself. Regret tipping! Customer service was some of the worst I've experienced in a while, and felt very targeted since I had a child. Comparable to PF Chang's in Biltmore and that place is...
