This quickly became one of our favorite places to eat in Asheville! I found out about this place through a Facebook group, and we went to try this place in the same week. We have since been twice, and have plans to continue to go. This place has chicken tender and fish, as well as french fries and other items. They make most of their sauces in-house, which is super awesome. We ordered our food, got combos, and sat down. Food was freshly prepared and out to us within ten minutes. The chicken was amazing, and you could tell that it had never been frozen. The breading of the chicken is well-seasoned, and the chicken is crispy and juicy! The french fries are also fried perfectly. I've tried the aioli, peppernaise, andalouse, honey mustard, and creolaise sauces. I personally loved the aioli, honey mustard, and peppernaise! They also have "regular" sauces such as BBQ and ranch, and bottles of ketchup on the tables. I have tried the ranch, and it was that good restaurant ranch which paired perfectly with the chicken. We also have had the yuca fries, which were also amazing. They have a certain flavor that goes with a specific sort of sauce, I found that the peppernaise and ranch worked well with them. The food is a little pricey, but it is so worth it to me. A 3 piece chicken tender combo will leave me full for half of a day. The people working are incredibly nice, as well. We definitely will be...
Read moreThis is the first time I had a chance to visit this new chipery in Asheville. The chips are thick cut twice fried so they are crunchy on the outside with a pillowy center, personally I think they were a bit on the dry side and prefer my chips with only the single fry but they were still very good and I feel most people will like them. The chicken is nice chicken strips dredged in a pepper flower mix. The chick stayed very juicy the flavor of the coating was very black pepper forward but still very good. When I came to the fish however I was extremely disappointed. The cod is coated in the same pepper flower breading that the chicken is so it is not a traditional wet batter at all. The lack of a batter lead the fish to be quite dry, over cooked and the pepper overpowered any flavor of the cod.
Update: Since my first review I have found that if you get the cod fillet instead of the tenders it retains a nice juiciness and doesn't over cook. The batter is still a little weird to me on cod but it is the easiest place to get fish and chips in or surrounding Asheville. If they ever did a beer batter then this place would jump up to a must have for any fish and chips fan, as it stands it is a good place for fish and chips and a great place for...
Read moreGreat food, great people! Locally-owned, family run greatness going on here! The cod is always fresh, juicy, tender, melt in your mouth delicious! The variety of house-made sauces available add a special touch to a classic favorite. The fresh cut Belgian Style fries are hearty, crispy, seasoned perfectly, served piping hot, everytime. Portion sizes are fantastic (I rarely leave without a to-go box). Love watching my food prepared fresh, quickly, and with great care only seconds after I've ordered it. I have been multiple times and it just gets better every time. I'd thoroughly recommend Golden Chips to anyone looking for a fresh cooked fried fish meal. They have chicken as well if your looking for that, I haven't tried it yet, but they put the same love into its preparation as they do the fish, so I imagine it's delicious also! Give 'em a shot you...
