This was our second time viewing these falls, but first time doing the trail. The trail was fairly easy with not much elevation change. A little mild scrambling at the end. On our first visit, we had opted to view the falls from the overlook due to an injury. The overlook was a short trek from the parking area on maintained surfaces. We were stunned by the view when we reached our destination. It is a massive canyon where you view part of the falls into the pool at the bottom. It was initially hard to interpret what we were viewing though since the water flow was not prominent. I suppose it had not rained there in a while. However this most recent trip we decided to hike to the bottom to get a different viewpoint. We had showed up late in the day and forced this hike, so we were fighting daylight. On the way down we say lots of kids coming back up, which was assuring that the trail would be doable at a faster pace. We almost jogged the trail to race the clock. There was a cute bridge created for when the creek is flowing. It was beautiful scenery along the way with an even more spectacular destination. It had rained the day before and we had gotten to experience a heavy flow waterfall. It was much more impressive than the previous experience, and not just because we were at the bottom. We took our pictures and jetted for the top. Wish we could have stayed longer. The only negative experience was a scare along the way. I had thought my girlfriend had thrown a rock ahead of me to trick me that an animal was next to us. I heard it again and she assured me that it wasn’t her. Turns out, it was a giant log/tree trunk that was propped right above the trail that had snapped. It fell again to a new position just 20 feet in front of us. Glad it didn’t hurt anybody! Anyway, I will...
Read moreCedar Creek Trail was quite enjoyable and a good hike. It would be hella fun for kids..... of all ages! I’d say t least 3/4 of it is going up and down stone steps, scrambling over rocks, walking along the creek, where the remaining part, towards the end is flat - and you will need the rest!
Because of the rain in the preceding week, Cedar Creek was flowing quite well and there were dozens of little waterfalls and cascades all along the trail.
Since I did not follow the self-guided booklet or stop to look at all the markers, it took me an hour to do the trail, taking lots...
Read moreThe Petit Jean State Park Cedar Creek Trail in Morrilton, Arkansas, boasts some of the most unique rock formations, beautiful scenery, and stunning overlooks you will ever see. There are a few issues you may encounter, however, like rocky terrain, downed trees, and a bridge that has been washed out. Navigating the stream is particularly easy where the bridge is out this time of the year. In fact, the creek is so low right now that it can be crossed without getting wet. Also, August tends to be one of the hottest months in AR...so bring...
