This spot exceeded my expectations! ROCK HOUSE CAVE TRAIL Petit Jean State Park Trail Type: Day Hikes Difficulty: Easy Distance: .25 mile Time: .5 hour hiking time

What to know Rock House Cave is not a true cave, but a large rock shelter. It is also the premier spot in the state for viewing Native American rock art- created over 500 years ago. This trail also includes some of the most interesting geological formations in the park; Turtle Rocks. (Purple Blazes)

Petit Jean State Park is an Arkansas classic, a natural and historic treasure that has welcomed travelers for decades. The natural beauty and ancient geology of the legendary Petit Jean Mountain inspired the creation of Arkansas’s first state park and with it our state park system. The park mirrors the mountain’s rugged beauty with its rustic-style, native log and stone facilities constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) beginning in 1933. The CCC built trails, roads, bridges, cabins, and the focal point of the park, historic Mather Lodge, a 24-room lodge overlooking Cedar Creek Canyon with a restaurant, meeting rooms, and gift shop. The fireplace in the lobby serves as a welcoming gathering place...

We walked down the turtle rocks and toured the cave and saw Native American drawings, then headed back up so it was a quick hike. The cave is only about an 1/8 of a mile down if you’re looking for something quick. Great for the kids!

you are in for a real treat here but some most people miss the most unique part of the trail by making a beeline right to the Indian rock house. yes, the Indian rock house is very cool with all those ancient writing on the wall and they are still find more and more of them. but to me what mother nature has created is far more amazing. how often do you come across natural rock formations that look like a bunch of huge turtles. whats also nice is you have a choice. you can see both of these with in a very easy short hike or by using alltrails app on your smart phone you can have a much better 4 mile loop hike with views. alltrails will show you the top 8 hikes in petit jeans and you'll be able to really see how beautiful this state park really is. have fun exploring. keep...
