INADEQUATE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND POOR CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE. On May 28th I registered for The Metropolitan 5K run, scheduled to take place on June 19th. The run course itself was a great experience. It felt good to get a workout in and support our local community on such a profound holiday. That feeling has since turned into disappointment. At the finish line there weren’t any event volunteers passing out finisher’s medals or guiding finishers on where to go to obtain their medal. I asked around to some of the participants who had medals and was told the event ran out of medals. I went into the gym building to ask some staffers if this was true. I was told by the staffers that it was true and they directed me to a table outside next to the stage. The table had a QR code on the table to scan and enter my contact information. I was told by some of the volunteers at the table that my medal would be mailed to me at a later date. This was and has been extremely disappointing. I am an avid race participant (of other events) and I have never participated in an event that ran out of medals. What caused this situation to sting a bit more was the fact that prior to the start of the race the MC stated multiple times that the run was delayed (about 30 minutes) because participants were still registering as of the morning of the event. EFFECT chose to allow hundreds of people to register at the last minute, which caused hundreds of others, like myself, not to receive our finisher’s medal. The lack of accountability and communication makes this feel like one big money grab. Priority should have been given to those of us that registered for the race weeks and months in advance. I have completed several other races that allowed late/same day registration, but they had the proper logistics in place to ensure early registrants received their medals the day of the event.
Late/same day registrants could have received a different color bib and/or their bibs could have been marked/stamped appropriately so that when they crossed the finish line the volunteers would know they should not receive a medal that day and theirs would be mailed to them at a later date. Some races even provide the medals beforehand, at packet pickup, to ensure the pre-registrants receive their medals.
It provided a bad customer experience to have to chase a staffer down just to learn I wouldn’t receive my medal the day of the run. The lack of communication since the event has been non-existent.
On June 20th Cause of Effect sent out a mass thank you email. There was no reference to the missing medals other thank a small link at the bottom of the email that read “Missing Race Day Collateral? Let us know!” The link directed me to the same page I completed using the QR code on the day of the race.
On June 26th I emailed Cause of Effect Fitness requesting to know the ETA of when I could expect my medal in the mail. I have not received a response.
On July 3rd I sent a second email to Cause of Effect Fitness and I included Effect Fitness as well. I have not...
Read moreOH EM GEEE!!!!! I was invited here by a friend... I was excited! Then we pulled up... the parking lot was PACKED!! At 7:30 AM...! I immediately felt intimidated... then I walked in and was a little more intimidated... then I got to the room and was EXTREMELY intimidated!!! That room was SO FULL!!! I was brick 130, and there were at least FOUR MORE ROWS behind me!!! I just stood there looking around. Someone actually had their stuff at my brick and the guy that helped me find my brick made sure to find the owner. Another participant was also assuring me that the owner would come get her stuff and move. Then someone came next to my friend and he was easily willing to switch places with me so my friend and I could be next to each other... all that to say... everyone seemed genuinely friendly and helpful- from check in, thru the whole routine. THE WORKOUT: OOOHH EEEEMMMM GEEEE!!!!!!!!!!! 👀 I pray that I can move tomorrow!!!!! It was very intense!! At the moment- I feel the soreness in my shoulders and upper arms as I lift my cucumber to my mouth and bite! 😆 It was TOTALLY AMAZING though. No pressure to keep up outside of the motivation of the other 130++ others that are going at it with you!! I agree, it IS ADDICTIVE! I am super pumped to go again!!! REASON FOR MISSING STAR: It gets pretty hot in there with all those bodies and they don't have air circulation going... thankfully I wasn't by any stank folks! I'm not sure if no air is part of the strategy/routine, but be sure to COME hydrated, BRING hydration, and a TOWEL!! I will probably bring my own weights to use next time and invest in a LARGE water jug! OVERALL: AMAZING! I look forward to going back! ENJOY! ...
