This review is for my experience in the ER and only ER. My son was born here and we are here frequently. He was born with an intestinal issue which affects his electrolytes. Because of this when he gets a GI bug he gets dangerously dehydrated and we have had an admission monthly since December. On June 22nd my son was not doing well. I was concerned after trying to keep him hydrated with GTUBE fluids was not cutting it. I went into the ER and was taken into an intake room where his doctor was Dr. Jacob Beniflah. I explained to him about my son’s condition and my concern and my concerns were brushed off. I repeatedly told him to take a look at his chart and that if he could ask GI and he said it was not necessary. (my son has his GI doctor at Childrens and she’s amazing) he was persistent about discharging him and continue giving him fluids through his Gtube at home even after I told him it wasn’t working. At one point he said that I looked frustrated and I told him I was because I felt ignored and then he asked if I felt rushed and I said “yes i feel like you are just trying to get us out of here”. I demanded bloodwork and he shut me down and discharged me. Since my son has standing orders in the lab I went down the hall to the outpatient lab and got his bloodwork and proceeded to take him home as he said it was safe. Once I got home i shortly received a message that his labs were ready and I viewed them and they were HORRIBLE. I was getting his stuff ready to take him back to the hospital when I look over and my son started having seizures. And we ended up needing an ambulance and he seized again at the ER. I tried contacting patient advocate and its been a month and no response. They have not bothered to give me a call. They thought what was appropriate was sending a letter that said nothing about the steps or measures done with this situation. It looked like it was just copy and pasted to be honest. I truly wanted to avoid a negative review but this is the only way hospitals listen now by...
Read moreThis isn't an emergency room. This is a joke. Get your place in order! 99% of the people here do not have emergencies. They are using this as primary care/urgent care. THAT IS NOT WHAT THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE. Edit: the lack of care here almost cost my son's life. After 3 hours of waiting, I spoke to the front desk to see if they could tell me where we were. She said there were still 8 patients ahead of us. There was a probably 5 year old girl who came in right after us with blood everywhere from hitting her head. She waited those same 3 hours. Her dad went up to the counter right after me. And I listened. She told him there are 8 patients ahead of him (same thing she told me), but then she told him because of her age her head wound was not a high priority because they can still do stitches within 12 hours after the wound. I was in shock. We left to try to come back in the morning as it was around 10PM and he needed his rest for what he has. Long story short, his condition worsened in the night and we took him to the Broomfield campus which was much better, but they transferred him via ambulance to Anschutz. As others have said, the hospital is great. The ER is beyond awful. As a side note, the ER is filthy; not just because it is busy. Like it hasn't been cleaned in months. I saw a dried puddle of puke or something underneath the receptionists desk which also...
Read moreWords cannot express my gratitude for the entire team that cared for our child at the Aurora Children's Hospital and ER department. We were on an out of state vacation, with a flight home pending later that day, when our child came down with a medical emergency. We had no idea where to go out of state, that was in-network, so we started out at a different emergency department (equally amazing) and ended up getting transferred here. The communication between the two locations was seamless in getting our information transferred and testing underway. They were so understanding of our situation and did their best to provide resources to us, during this unexpected adventure. They were extremely patient with all of our questions (I typically have a lot of them). I so much appreciated how compassion and thorough they were every step of the way. It was comforting to know that our child was in good hands with their level of speciality and expertise. Our child was able to get in for surgery and discharged from the hospital earlier than expected, so we were able to catch a flight back home. I'm happy to say our child is now recovering comfortably! If they read this, I want to tank each and every employee at the Aurora Children's hospital and ER department for their commitment to being amazing every day. They are making a difference...
