My first experience with The Great Greek wasn't great. I had placed an online order on a Monday at 4pm to be picked up between 5:30 and 5:45pm. I showed up near 5:35 and finally left with my food near 6pm. I was 10 minutes late meeting up with my group. That embarrassed me as people were waiting on me.
The next thing that wasn't so great, is when I signed up online you get instant spam: "Thanks for choosing The Great Greek Mediterranean Grill today. Follow this link to rate your experience and enter for a chance to win a $100 gift card!". I hate that. I want a simple transaction, I order food, they make the food, I give them money. That is where I want the transaction to end. I don't want reminders, deals, or birthday wishes. Also, you couldn't sign up with a 'land-line' phone as it had to be something that accepts text messages.
The food was average for Greek food. On the bright side, the falafels were well shaped and not overcooked. Most of my food had been sitting as my order was waiting on something for a long time and the falafels and fries were cold and needed to be microwaved when I got to my destination which was not ideal. My pitas were also missing, the description says: Falafel Served with Mint Yogurt, Side Salad, and Pita Bread Plus Your Choice of Rice Pilaf, French Fries or Feta Fries. So, I paid $12 for 6 falafel, fries, and a very small container of salad.
The interior was themed nice, clean and utilitarian, but the tables needed to be bused from previous guests. I know I was visiting at prime time as there were many people waiting, but there wasn't a great place to wait as the dine-in interior is smaller, so I sat at a dirty table. The staff were nice and seemed to be working smoothly to get everything together. I think there may have been small catastrophe before I showed up.
I don't usually eat in that part of town often, so I won't be back after this experience for a second try. I really try and leave positive reviews, but I don't like being embarrassed, spammed, or have missing food and I'm sure it was just a bad night for the staff and management given all the other positive reviews. Good luck!
Something completely out of the restaurants control was that there was an obviously mentally ill person walking around and yelling in the parking lot which...
Read moreI haven't wanted to review this location until I've visited a few times so I could get a thorough evaluation for my review. The food is always remarkable, the Great Greek Gyro never fails to please, giving remarkable flavor in every bite.
The owner of this location never fails to set aside time for his guests and I appreciate that, I am however very appalled at the customer service I received today considering the owner is a very kind and professional individual, I would assume the same treatment would follow through to their staff amongst one another and their guests.
The moment I walked in today I felt unwelcome, the usual cheerful happy-go-lucky Aaron L I'm used to seemed very upset and annoyed with my presence, I know its not personal so I assume all the guests have received his "stellar" service during his shift. I asked for the $5 Gyro promotion and he seemed to have sighed in annoyance and asked his coworker if that was something they were doing, after she said yes he became more annoyed and had no composure and seemed uninterested in giving me that discount for whatever reason, tossing his arms around in little fits of annoyance and rolled his eyes, after typing in what I want "What else do you want" with a look on his face that said enough about my presence. I kindly asked for 2 Root Beers, and after applying the promo to my order, I paid and felt relieved that this experience would be over with soon. In passing, after he handed me my drinks I told him "I hope your day gets better", he said "Oh nah we're just joking". Whatever they were joking about, the female employee with dark brown and blonde hair dyed on top kept telling Aaron L "No, stop, don't do that" over and over, but in a way that seemed like she was crying to him not to get involved in drama or perhaps quit. It has made the environment very stale, and uncomfortable. From my perspective this behavior was highly inappropriate behavior, I understand, we all have bad days but its not fair to take it out on the people buying product...
Read moreOrder at the counter, pick your favorite seat, and get ready for some yummy Greek food! We over-ordered but were glad that we sampled so many dishes.
While we waited for someone to join us, we tried the lemon soup and the dip sampler. The avgolemono soup was warm, creamy, and delicious. My picky son ate it spoonful after spoonful and then dipped warm pita in the bowl to capture the rest.
The dip sampler could have been a meal by itself. Each of the dips was about four ounces, more than enough for a family or small group to share. This sampler included tzatziki (cucumber yogurt dip), hummus, melitzanosalata (a roasted eggplant dip similar to baba ganoush), and tirokafteri (a strong blend of feta, cream cheese and red peppers that no one in our group really liked).
After our friend arrived, we ordered entrees. We requested the chicken souvlaki, Greek salad wrap with falafel and shrimp skewers. The meats were juicy and perfectly seasoned. The side salads were fresh and crisp, with a generous amount of feta covering the top. More warm pita and tzatziki were definite bonuses. Our only criticism was that the lemon potatoes could have been cooked longer. That's it!
The kids meals were huge. Our kids are at the age when they split their tastes between the kids' menu and the adult menu. I'm happy they choose the kids' menu this time--just as much food for half the price. They each ate shrimp skewers (four shrimp) with French fries, a cute side salad and more warm pita.
We're definitely glad that we tried this place near Children's Hospital Colorado. The food exceeded our expectations and stuffed us to the brink. Next time we will save room for baklava and other desserts. The staff was polite -- not friendly nor unfriendly -- so they did not take away from our fun evening.
I found out later that the Great Greek Mediterranean Grill is a chain restaurant. I'll keep an eye out for locations outside of Aurora and...
