I think this place is an EXCELLENT public service. I tend to come out every 6 months or so after we've gathered up enough stuff to make the trip to South Austin. Incredibly hard-working staff here with a sense of community, and very caring and careful. :)
I had a minor chemical burn while dropping off a peroxide chemical product due to a hole in my gloves - my fault for missing it - and Cain lead me to the sink in the back and they were very thorough rinsing off my hands until the burning sensation had stopped. Thanks to the household hazardous waste folks for that!
Today aside, the staff have always been very patient with my questions about what they can accept and where it goes, and it's always lovely to have a conversation with them. The staff here have an incredible combination of doing a manual labor job outdoors in this infamous Texas heat while also being very personable while their neighbors bring them all manner of things to dispose of in one manner...
Read moreGreat people working here! Love the idea of the free paint, however... the paint colors are very random. I thought I was getting a greenish color (there was a green dot on it) and it was actually a yellow/beige color. The jar marked grey looked more like a super light blue. It ended up fine for the projects I needed paint for, but I don’t wouldn’t t want to paint an area that needs more than the paint in the one bucket, or you won’t get a consistent color. The mulch is pretty great but occasionally has trash in it from when people throw things such as their dog poop bags and such in their neighbor’s leaf bags on the side of the road. I can’t believe how much mulch is sitting there just for the taking! Bring some huge bags and a shovel and just load up! I’m very glad this...
Read moreI made an appointment online and dropped off some 20 year old computers and monitors here and it was very quick and easy! I can't believe there is a Texas law that I must be able to dispose of cathode ray computer monitors for free within a reasonable distance from where I live!! It would have been $20 to drop off each monitor at the Best Buy.
For this location, one bump that happened was that to make an appointment, you must specify an Austin limits address, and yet computer monitors are free to any Texas address. On the county selection page, I was able to select Williamson county, but I had to put in an Austin address on the first step. There could be another option that's like "please enter your Austin address, or select...
