My wife and I are long time members, Ive read some of the reviews and want to respond to some of the negative comments:
First off, you cannot play a 6 hour round here, its 4.5 hours and you are out of here. Im 68 years old and my wife and I walk the course in under 4 hours as a data point. Usually we are pushed by folks in carts. Note: some of the previous marshals admittedly needed to attend charm school, but they are all long gone.!
Second if you can find a better layout in Austin, play it. WE DONT NEED OR WANT YOU HERE. Hackers need not apply. Ive played "ALL" the Austin golf courses and the front nine at Avery is one of the best, #5 and #7 are really tough, but fair. You have to hit really good shots.
Third if you can find a course with better greens play it. The new owners have spent a ton of money on new equipment and time to make the greens as good as they can be in Texas and survive the heat. They are constantly sabring and airiating them to hold water, no more punching and sanding.
Fourth we now have the JL Lewis golf academy at Avery. Which is a top tier learning center from a recent multiple PGA tour winner and all around great guy. Folks he's been there and done that. ( I like to hangout around him and hope some of it will rub off on me.)
Areas of improvement: the bunkers. My wife and I play early in the morning and because of all the watering the sand gets compacted. We are usually out there before the bunker crew has a chance to fluff them up. Im sure they are much better in the afternoon.
*Lastly since the new owners have taken over EVERYTHING (including the membership) has been raised several notches, ESPECIALLY THE GOLF ETIQUETTE and if you don't get that the new marshall's will be happy to train you. Folks all these improvements cost money so they bumped the green fees and also my monthly membership. To me its still...
Read moreAmazing golf course with Amazing views. And a Amazing staff that do whatever they can to make sure you're well served. Don't worry about the negative reviews bit be aware that all golf course in Texas during the °100 and x temperatures are struggling to keep ther putting green in perfect condition! If you're not patient with mother nature and the game stay away from any golf course duringthe summer. I saw many reviews complain about 2 greens. Dude's we are in Texas and everyone are saving water plus is °104 out there. And hello no one can water their grass because the water restrictions in the area! Y'all want everything green at any cost right? Give me a break and take a break from the game during the extreme heat season. And also understand that it take time for a green to recover. The management need to set up more extreme rules for individuals that love to drink and take their time in the fairway and greens drinking and smoking their cigar as the real players are waiting for them. Y'all that go to the golf course to drink and smoke are not real players. Y'all only are there delayed the real players and posting negative reviews about the course. Real players keep up with one another fake player take their time to drink, smoke and mess up the greens. Sadly this type of individuals are everywhere. Anyway don't pay attention to the negative reviews about the green go there and see with your own eyes and remember we are in Texas and the heat is not fake during the summer. But the rest of the year we have the best season in the country. Be happy and visit Avery Ranch Golf course because they're the best...
Read moreAvery Ranch is a nice layout and in general very good. A few things I really DON'T like about it. 1) The bunkers are almost always nearly unplayable. With a course like this, that's simply unacceptable. Too few staff to maintain the bunkers? (Better sand would help although it may be priced out of their budget). They look like the staff rarely rakes them, and they get "washed out" so often they end up hard mud with little to no sand under the lie. 2) It would help online (or when you call in for a tee time) if there were a notification when you book a tee time that lets you know of the range being closed. Not during a wet condition, as that would be logical and probably expected. But foir example opening the range this pastWednesday at 10 am. Several times we've booked there and the range was not open and there was no notice. We called the clubhouse this time before we left to see if the range was open. It wasn't. 3) Why does your company not accept American currency? Credit card only is a ludicrous way to run a company. And it's that way with all three courses run by this ownership team. 4) I understand that some holes would be cart path only, but don't get why a few of these on Avery are. Could someone explain the logic? Of the three courses run by this company, Avery is generally pretty good. Nice layout and greens are almost always in good shape. A shame that just a little more care from the staff and ownership would make this place a gem. The clubhouse and restaurant are friendly...
