My friends and I took our toddlers (three 2 yr olds) to Sherwood Gardens for a picnic. We were equipped with food, blankets, bubbles, and toys. The day turned sour when we were bombarded by an elderly woman walking her dog. As she approached us from roughly 10 yards, we heard her aggressively screaming NO, NO! Our kids were running about the field, stopping to grab the stems of the tulips, “smell” them, chasing bubbles, and then repeat. As the woman drew closer, she proceeded to scream at us and our kids and pontificate her disgust at the lack of supervision. One of my friends softly reasoned with her, complimented the gardens, and asked if she volunteered there. The woman abrasively replied, “I run this.” She was relentless and continued for about 8 min standing in front of us chiding all things that disgusted her. Guess what happened next? We left. I presume that one volunteers to take on such a project to not only bring beauty to a place, but to bring about joy, light, and to uplift little pockets of the world. She did the opposite and to my dismay and ultimate disgust, she did it to children. There are a number of places to observe beauty, amongst people that have respect for families and people that communicate with friendliness and good will. That woman was the...
Read moreHoly heckin TULIPS! That’s the most family-friendly thing I could say than what’s really in my mind lol. The gardens are absolutely INCREDIBLE and I’m so bummed that tulips only bloom for a short time. Grab a blanket big enough and bring some yummy snacks and water to hydrate because you’re gonna love munching, napping, and sleeping under the warm sun in the evergreen shade next two these massive blossoming beauties. I didn’t expect the flowers to be so HUGE! I’m talking petals the length of my entire hand! Safeway’s got nothing on these gems. Will go back again and again. Just be careful when playing frisbee. Protect the flowers so that everyone can enjoy them! I like to carry a ziploc with me to pick up the petals or broken blooms to give them a second life by pressing them. I even like to do this with fallen cherry blossoms 🌸a cute little souvenir to remind you if this beautiful spot. Parking is fairly simple even on the busiest of days. I highly recommend leaving time afterwards to walking outside the gardens to see surrounding tulips and flowering plants as the community it’s in is...
Read moreThe garden is lovely. We have gotten family portraits her twice once in May and once in November. From what I experienced it is just a walking park. There is no playground, bathroom, picnic benches or anything like that. Their are a number of seating benches throughout that make great places to sit for photos. I didn't notice any benches with backs so I wouldn't say it's a playground to sit and read at unless you are bringing a blanket. There are a number of shaded areas to sit as well. If your into Frisbee or some other game where you need an open area there is space there for that as well. I think this is the perfect place to take pictures or have a cute picnic basket date. We have only been in the mornings and the parking was ample during our visit. However it is residential and only on one side of the street. Definitely worth the visit if you are looking for...
