The Craft Castle forces me to slow down and unplug in a way that truly soothes my soul. I have mostly brought my own project to work on so far, so I haven't even touched the provided materials! But the "working alone, together" vibe is just absolutely impeccable. You can go with a friend or not, and chat with anyone and everyone as much or as little as you want.
I'm excited to take advantage of more of the supplies, since I hate how often I buy something to make art with and end up using it once. I also know I need to try one of sweet experiences the owner Craig has created, like the surprise collage kits.
As someone in recovery, I'm also grateful to come here as an explicitly sober social space. It would be very easy, and maybe even expected for a place like the Craft Castle to be BYOB. But instead, everyone starts the session by choosing a mug to make a cup of tea or hot chocolate, or cracking a can of seltzer.
Craig has cultivated such a perfect, cozy little nook that embodies some of my core beliefs – that everyone is an artist; that defining art by whether or not it is purchased/purchasable is a lie of capitalism; and that there's value inherent in making art that is unrelated to the...
Read moreAs a working toddler mom who has fully girl-bossed herself too hard and is completely depleted of free time, I don’t get many chances to fully unwind anymore. The Craft Castle in Baltimore gave me exactly that - play time for grown-ups.
The vibe was everything I didn’t know I needed. It relaxing, fun, open, and welcoming. I actually drove down from Philly for my session, and it was so worth the drive. Walking inside felt like stepping into something magical you read about in a book as a kid. Have you seen The Holiday? It’s like the full size, real version of the Sophie and Olivia’s playroom tent.
For a couple hours, I wasn’t thinking about work, chores, or schedules. I was just me, with sequins on my hands and a huge smile on my face.
Craig has built such a special space. Whether you’re a parent who needs a break, a friend group looking for something fun and different, or just someone craving a little creativity in your week, The Craft Castle is the perfect escape. I’ll definitely be...
Read moreThe Craft Castle is such a magical find. I was searching for a way to be more social and make new friends, so I joined the journal club, which meets weekly. I had no idea what to expect but when I got there the first time I immediately was welcomed by Craig, the amazing owner, and all the other journal club participants. The space is warm and calming, and made me feel so at ease, which as someone with severe anxiety does not happen often. Journaling happens for just part of the time during club, and you get to do crafts for the rest! I didn’t know how much journaling would help me until I had my next appointment with my therapist, and I was able to pull out my journal and use it to help me describe my week and how I had been feeling without relying on just memory. I can’t list all the reasons why The Craft Castle is amazing here, but I HIGHLY encourage everyone to at least come try it out one time, and experience this inclusive, loving, fun space that Craig has...
