The guesthouse is the most inspiring place I have EVER stayed in. Throughout all of my travels, this place holds a very special place in my memories and times spent. The intentionality in its design is something so special you will not see anywhere else. I had the opportunity to chat with the owner and designer of the hotel and learned so much about the creative process leading up to the creation of this lovely space. His vision was to bring a space to Baltimore that felt as warm and welcoming as staying at a family/friend's house. With this thought, bringing community together was a central idea. Every room and common space has works (spanning from visual artists, ceramists, candle makers, local woodworkers the list goes on…) from local Baltimore creators and makers. You get the opportunity to sit with their pieces, drink from their creations, and immerse yourself in the under-appreciated, but thriving, Baltimore art scene; all under one roof. Another important element in its conception was introducing Baltimore to his family's culture and history, visually, through different materials and natural elements. India and Egypt are the countries of origin for the owners and they wanted to share a part of that with everyone here. All the paper used for the informational sheets and on the sliding doors is papyrus brought from Egypt on a trip to visit family. The piece de resistance (IMO) is the handcrafted sink in the first-floor washroom, a 3-foot sculpture of a stepwell found all throughout western India in the 7th - 19th century. These stepwells were developed to provide drought-prone areas access to water throughout the year, and the sink was designed as an ode to such an important piece of architectural history in this region. I could go on and on about the thoughtfulness of this place, but you need to experience it for yourself! The rooms are all unique and the whole place smells like heaven. The pyramids room is extremely spacious, has a California king bed and incredible views of the sunset. My first time staying here and I felt so at peace I didn’t want to leave my room all day! I can’t say enough good things about this gem, but what I can say is, this is seriously an experience you should treat...
Read moreVery disappointed in my experience here. The two stars are the pluses. One is for the shower it was really nice and the other star is for the bed which was a very comfortable mattress. Unfortunately it is not positioned for you to easily get to. We were bumping & hitting our shins stepping in & out of the bed. You literally have to climb over to get there. There is also no closet space the few hangers on the wall is it. Very small fridge that is stocked full of their products. If you are wanting to store your own items there is not much space for it. If you have a disability or health concern, be aware that there are steep steps to get into the building. Someone notified that there was a lift in back, but unfortunately to get to the lift you have to walk through several steep steps in the back patio , which didn't make it any easier access. Upon arrival we were given a notice of when our room would be attended to & cleaned, we made sure to be out during the day & time given only to return & the room had not been cleaned. The final & last straw came when a woman came to our room & told us for everyone else's comfort they were going to turn the air on since as I understood it one cooling & heating for everyone you cannot control the temperature of your room. Because of her turning the air on my husband got very sick , shivering & extremely uncomfortable & very physically ill. It was obvious our health, care , comfort & safety was not a priority. We actually left before our reservation was done & found better , safer accommodations. Maximum expense at minimum comfort, was our expierence here. It seemed to want to be a spa more than a guest accommodation & unfortunately didn't do either very well. You cost us valuable time with our family & loved ones . I'm sorry because I can see that this took time & effort to create, just don't sacrifice guests health & safety . Good neighbor wasn't a good neighbor to us. If you value your health, comfort & safety consider making...
