Opened in 1859, the Barnegat Lighthouse towers over Barnegat Inlet, guiding ships into New York Harbor. The lighthouse is open to the public weather permitting and closes at 3pm. It is open outside of the summer season when it’s less crowded and the park is free to enter. A total of 217 stairs stand between visitors and beautiful views of the Jersey shore. The stairs have 2 railings and you cannot see all the way down which makes climbing easier. Read moreThis is a great place to visit. The museum is interesting and informative - it’s free and they also sell cold water for those scorching days of summer. The lighthouse is beautiful, and open for climbing (check the hours on their website). There’s a trail for hiking and a walkway that allows for some great water and sunset views and also fishing! Read moreTotally epic place to visit. Parking is free and the gates open daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Cars must be removed from the lot by 6:00). The lighthouse is beautiful although when we went it was being restored, however restoration should be completed by October 2022. Can’t wait to come back to see what it looks like because it already looks cool. Past/next to the lighthouse there is a nice concrete walkway right on the water.
