I do love this store. The selection is pretty great and their services are great to see considering other game stores in the area don't offer them. The only reason this isn't a full 5 stars is due to two reasons,
To start, you don't know the prices unless you ask on certain items. Consoles and cartridge based games do have the price sticker on the front or top of the item so that is much appreciated, but due to the majority of their stock being behind a wrap around glass counter, it's impossible to know a price on a certain thing before you buy it like I can at say game x change or GameStop. It's not a deal breaking gripe by any means due to the nature of where they're located, but still wanted to mention that for anyone that has never been there before reading this.
The other thing, and this has stopped me from buying there as of late, are the green stickers they put on discs. a few months ago, I purchased a copy of We Love Katamari for PS2, I was excited to see it since I played it as a kid, but when I opened the case, I saw this neon green sticker on the disc. After trying to take it off, it left my fingers dyed green, and it left a sticky residue on the disc. I know this habit isn't exclusive to The Disc Connection, but I still get a little annoyed when I see something on the disc itself.
Like I said, I love this store, and I don't want anyone to think I am writing this review to scare anyone off. They really do offer really amazing services, hold cool events like free video games day, and their employees are so down to earth and I have nothing but respect for everyone there. I just wish the two points I made change in the future. Thanks...
Read moreTucked away in a small plaza in the historic district of Bartlett, The Disc Connection is a hidden gem that offers gamers an experience that cannot be found at other traditional game retailers. At first glance, the store does not look like much. But, do not let the exterior fool you. The disc connection offers better service than any other game store. They offer game and console repair, they pay a high amount for used gear, and they sell software and hardware that can not be found anywhere else. The Disc Connection will repair just about anything, from Atari to the most current generation console, and they do it at an affordable price. From broken controllers to scratched-up discs, they will fix it quickly and affordably. Because The Disc Connection is not part of a major corporate machine, they can set their own prices and the way they wish to do business. This greatly benefits the customer. They want your business and they will work with you. Giant retailers like GameStop must follow a specific protocol when it comes to how they buy and sell. This is a complaint many customers have about that retailer, and in the end, will be the chain’s ultimate demise. However, The Disc Connection will accept just about any machine that plays video games. They do offer current gen gaming, but their expertise lies within a rare knowledge that can not be found elsewhere. This is where one goes when he or she is looking for something rare or specific that a typical internet search won’t answer. Their stock is much greater than what is on display. So, it is good to ask if you don’t see it. If they do not have it, they can...
Read moreI have been to this store twice now, and can say this last visit will be my last.
I was excited the first time I found out about the store, because I love gaming. My daughter and I share this hobby, and it is our special little connection :)
I first went for a quick visit, to check the selection, and browse around. I noticed the selection was pretty good, but the prices seemed outrageous, even by today’s standards. I still ended up buying a N64 game for my little girl, as I didn’t want to leave empty handed.
After giving my daughter the game I had bought here, I was excited to tell her about this place, as we could go and browse together, to see if anything caught her eye. We ended up visiting together, and all I can describe it as… was… uncomfortable. The tone of the customer service had changed. I saw my daughter’s youthful innocent happiness turn sour, as the people in the store were rude to the both of us. As a single father, I am extremely sensitive to this. I was heartbroken. I know it’s 2024, and we’re supposed to be past this, but I couldn’t help but to feel like we were being treated differently because my daughter is half black:(. I can’t say for sure this was the cause, however, but I do know I will not be going back.
I’m not sure how these brick n mortars can have poor customer service, when there’s better prices and selection online, without...
