My family and my son’s girlfriends’s family met here for brunch on a Saturday. We made reservations about 2 days prior. Upon arriving inside the restaurant, we were pleasantly surprised that a violinist was entertaining guests. I had seen her on one a few of the restaurant’s Instagram posts but didn’t pay attention to days she would be performing . The vibe of the music she played was upbeat and so inviting.
We were promptly seated and immediately greeted by our waitress who had water for everyone. She took drink orders followed by menu items we wanted. I will say the food came out a joy, but broken up. Ie. My husband had ordered a side order of eggs. The eggs came out but not his main dish so he had to sit there as he waited on his main dish which took about 10 more minutes. He says the chicken really didn’t have any seasoning to it and was cooked almost tooo crispy to enjoy, but enjoyed the waffle and the eggs.
I enjoyed everything about my food! I had the vegan waffle, I think it’s called Chickless and Waffle. It came with crispy fried oyster mushrooms and a vegan waffle. I also ordered a side of vegan sausage. Everything was great. Those oyster mushrooms were fried to perfection and that vegan waffle could’ve been eaten without syrup. It was so great. Even others at the table who are not vegan, tasting my food and love everything
I enjoyed myself so much I went back the next day with my mom after we left church service. As an appetizer, we ordered fried green tomatoes that were served with what I called pepper relish, but mom said it was chow chow (soooo good we asked for some to go)! Whooo chile! So good! I do scrape off the shredded parmesean cheese they had on top and quite sure I probably ate some animal product that may have been a part of the coating/batter the tomatoes were dipped in. For my main course, I got the same (vegan) waffle, but ordered an extra one to take home. I was stuffed after eating half the waffle, so I ended up with a waffle and a half. Lol. My mom had the steak meal cooked medium. It was served with breakfast potatoes topped with peppers and onions and a nice sized biscuit. We ended up with the same waitress we had yesterday, and she was amazing!.
If you’re looking for a cool brunch spot with great food and service as well as a cool vibe, then go here on the third weekend of each month as that’s when the violinist says she’s there performing. Otherwise I’ve heard great things about this restaurant from others who did not go when she was performing. They still enjoyed their food and had great service!
Black-owned, professionally run! Thanks...
Read moreAesthetic and vibe of B & J is very good. So much thought put into the menu and the details. For that I would give highest rating. Unfortunately, the service is less than stellar and for me it’s a big factor in returning. As a former server and industry worker I completely get the challenges that go into operating. This is why I apply a heaping amount of grace to this aspect of the experience. We waited for at least 20 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us at the host station. When we were acknowledged it was the bare minimum of engagement while they tried to figure out who is doing what. Waited another 10 minutes. Once we sat down we waited another ten minutes before our server acknowledged us. Once she arrived it moved pretty quickly. And it should be noted our server was very pleasant and kind. It should also be noted nobody returned to check on whether we needed anything or how everything was. The next time we saw our server was to request the check. The menu is creative and mouthwatering and I was excited to offset the initial experience with some good food. We watched as people arrived and left after being told the wait would be 40 minutes. We didn’t understand that because the restaurant had at least 6 empty tables but that’s not factored in here. Our food arrived and it was delicious I had the B & J breakfast and the eggs were cooked expertly. Bacon was cooked impeccably. The breakfast potatoes weren’t memorable but the peppers and onions on top added some good flavor and interest. The coffee was bitter. I ordered the OG French toast which was two good size pieces and delicious. I understand that it may be necessary to add gratuity on if they’ve been stiffed before but for me who always leaves 20% and usually more I am a little put off by the policy. So I just leave it at 18% and call it good. For me adding it on automatically takes away the hustle and motivation to be on your game and dialed in to providing the best customer service. I definitely wouldn’t order take out when 20% is automatically applied to all orders. Take out does not warrant a 20% gratuity. If you want to charge more for the supplies used to package it up then build it into the prices and call it good. But to make people pay the same level of gratuity for less service and attention is off putting. I think this place could stand to have higher standards for operations and service. If you can get past the initial service deficiencies you’ll enjoy delicious food and a...
Read moreSunday's Brunch was with my beautiful friend @igoepic and we had an AMAZING time! She is always suggesting the BEST places for the experiences we both enjoy. It was my first time and when I say, impressed and satisfied 😌
First let me say that the owner @biscuitsandjams901 Ms Monique Williams was the ultimate host, greeting you with the warmest, sweetest Spirit and smile! It was a welcoming "mi casa su casa" experience!
The Grand Customer service was priceless! Yall see the drinks and food....
The music on the overhead speakers was the right touch for a groovy and cozy atmosphere. I love the nooks throughout the restaurant that offers a bit more privacy even for a party of 6.
First, The mimosas, offered in different flavors were definitely delish!
The "Pancake Shot" is definitely a "It's Noon Somewhere" starter along with the small and soft homemade biscuits drizzled and served with cinnamon butter. Lawd!
The Allatta Potatoes were a hit with the flavors of cheese, onions and peppers that topped it also served with a garlic aioli sauce. The Rum Boogie French Toast was to "Live For"! Toasted to perfection and glazed with an in house made Rum Sauce that had me smacking my lips like crazy. I enjoyed scrambled eggs and thick cut bacon which was tasty with my French toast. Then the Shrimp and Grits! The BEST I have ever enjoyed. My girl describes the grits as "Clouds" and I agree. The texture of smooth, creamy and airy all worked as a tantalizing palate pleaser to this foodie!
Shout out to our beautiful, multitasking and sweet spirited waitress Ariel! She was on top of taking care of us! We need more servers that enjoy what they do. Special shout out to Tyrek that was also a server that added more laughter to our experience.
The ambiance, esthetics, cleanliness and vibe of this business is definitely one of a kind. The whole crew worked together as a team with the upmost professionalism, politness and smiles.
There is more than a 5 star rating to give in my opinion but try for yourself! You won't be disappointed and I can't...
