Read moreAugust 11, 2017. We arrived 45 minutes before the park opened, and they allowed the guests in to the Pandora area, perhaps other areas of the park, I don't know. We had mapped the route to the ride the previous night, so as to be sure to get there early to get a good spot in line.
How naïve we were. Upon arrival in the Pandora area where the ride is, we found a crowd of hundreds, who had arrived before us, then hundreds more came in behind us. We moved forward a few feet at a time as the crowd compressed. Then they opened the chain blocking access over the bridge, and the crowd orderly stampede toward the fabled ride. My wife & two older daughters got separated from me & my youngest daughter in the stroller.
We were pressed onward by the masses of people, all with the same hope to beat the wait by arriving early. Within 20 minutes of this fight's beginning, it became apparent that it was not worth continuing, but there was no way out of the crowd; think of a highway in a blizzard, nobody moves, and nobody gets out.
Finally a cast member created a path between the line waiting to get into the cattle chute, and the line waiting to get into that line. I told the family that it was time to bail out, because the multiple-hours-long wait could not possibly be worth it.
So we got into the line of people trying to get out of the line. Waiting in a line to walk out of a line was a first-ever experience for me. I hope never to have to repeat it.
If there have been crowds like this since the ride opened months ago, I wonder why a better system of crowd management has not yet been implemented. Disney has always, always been outstanding at crowd-flow management. This has been my only unbearable experience with Disney waiting.
I know the ride is one-of-a-kind, but apparently it will be years before I find out first-hand, because we visit every two years. In fact, I look forward to being able to change this to a 5-star review, but until then... We are one Disney-pointed family. (That was a pun of...
Read moreThis is a truly unfortunate experience. Flight of Passage used to be an outstanding, incredibly immersive experience when it was closer to new. During my trip I managed to ride this twice, once in A theater, and once in B theater. After inspecting the 3d glasses, ensuring they were clean and free of scratches, and then requesting and getting the center seats in both theaters, both rides were blurry. (To clarify, the blurriness is definitely from a ghosting effect, which is most common on certain colors/3D glasses wavelengths) Theater B appears to be a little better off than theater A, but clearly both theaters have their projectors out of alignment.
Everything I've read online indicates that motion sickness and blurriness has become an increasing problem over time on Flight of Passage, with some speculating it was caused by scratched glasses and disney running out of new 3d glasses but being too cheap to buy more, and others speculating it was due to projector alignment, and others speculating other reasons. While my glasses both times were dirty, with smudges/fingerprints on the lens, I was able to wipe them off with the microfiber shirt I had on and them appear clean (worth noting, but when I visited universal, all their 3d glasses were always spotless. No smudges, or scratches ever).
During the ride, theater A during the cave scene, had a magenta ghosting around the top left of the creatures. But theater B had a magenta ghosting around the bottom right (less dramatic than A), and a green ghosting towards the left of creatures. Based off these observations I can only conclude that the projectors are out of alignment and Disney can't be bothered to care enough to realign them. Either way this used to be a great ride. Truly phenomenal ride. Now its nothing but a blurry mess. Yet another gem that Disney has thrown down the toilet due to apathy from...
