An African Themed Market With Good Food and Drink The Animal Kingdom Theme Park is divided into several smaller themed parks within its boundary. We spent quite a bit of time in Africa and found this great little place for lunch. Their menu is quite expansive with many common food items and some of them have been changed up with African spices and flavors. We were in Africa, so we wanted the tastes of that land and we got them. My wife had the Chicken Caesar Salad ($12.99). Fresh crisp romaine lettuce tossed in a Caesar dressing with tomatoes and grated Parmesan cheese, then topped with a nice portion of chermoula-marinated chicken. The spices for the marinade lent a warm, yet bold and slightly acidic flavor to the chicken. Not at all spicy hot. The portion size is large. She finished all the chicken, but left some of the lettuce. A very good value. Beef and Lamb Kofta Pita ($13.49). I think this is the African version of a gyro. The meat is a combination of beef and lamb, not heavy on the lamb. The same chermoula spices as on the chicken. A nice portion of meat on a warm, soft pita topped with a tasty tzatziki sauce. It was served with crunchy house-made potato chips. Chicken and Shrimp Rice Bowl ($15.99) Chermoula-marinated chicken and peri peri-marinated shrimp served on top of a west African savory tomato based slightly spicy jollof rice with another African specialty - kachumbari tomato and onion salad, topped with tzatziki sauce. The entire dish was really enjoyable. There is a covered outdoor eating area directly across from the market where you can dine in the shade. Be adventurous,...
Read moreA nice place to eat in Animal Kingdom. This attraction is inside Animal Kingdom requiring you to have access to the park (i.e. you need to buy or have tickets to get into the park). The location is behind the Tree of Life near the Safari Ride, Exploration Station, and Gorilla Falls. It consists of several small food places set in front of lots of places to eat. There is a sign in front of the entrance that shows you the food options and directs you to order and pay online. We ordered a children’s size Chicken Bowl and Shrimp Bowl. When your food is ready the app on your phone will inform you what station to pick it up. All of the tables are outside and are a mismatch of chairs. I do not believe that there were 2 of the same chair at any table I saw. Most of the tables have some degree of shade. We sat in the back next to the fence and got to enjoy the train as it transited between the mani stop and Rafiki’s Planet Watch and Exploration Station. Each of the kid’s meals was under $10 and they were ready within minutes of the time that was stated. They tasted very good and were a nice meal for the day. The area was clean and the staff were very nice. Overall, it was a very nice experience for getting a good meal in...
Read moreI tried the pork sausage with curried onions on naan bread after passing the sign for "curried sausage" many times when the market was closed (we r 1st time passholders trying to "discover disney", since we never could afford it before weekday select fl res deal). I almost didn't get the dish when it became clear that the sausage was not in fact curried, but figured it must still be good to have the permanent looking sign out front.
I'm very disappointed with Disney that this is being sold. It barely tasted like anything more than a sausage i could have made at home (for way less than $11), & the naan was cold & fell apart almost immediately. Since there are never seats to be had near counter service, we had to stand to eat our way-over-priced food. But it was not enjoyable fighting the naan & all.
This could be so much better. Forget the nasty black-eyed pea salad & make the sausage portable AND curried as advertised.
I want to feel like i can enjoy tasting things around the park, but i am already leery after trying just a few & not having much success. Not...
