Bodin Fisheries — Attraction in Bayfield

After 2 other visits to Bayfield and staying down the street, this year we finally decided to try Bodin’s smoked fish (early July 2019). We went in on our way out of town. I asked some questions and found out: It is not preserved, so you have to keep it refrigerated or on ice … (they had a cooler of ice there for you to ice it down if you need it, we did that and put it in a cooler for a 6 hour drive and it was fine). They are all fillets with no bones, but do have the skin (it holds it together and is easy to peel off). She gave us a few samples. Everything was very yummy. We settled on the sugar cured/smoked trout. She said the trout is a little more fishy than the whitefish. I would agree, but we found that gave the trout a little more body or something. (note, here “fishy” isn’t the same as what you get when you buy something that’s “been sitting around for several days” fishy…this is by no means like that). We’ll definitely be...

We love smoked fish and while in town we had to stop and pick some up. We were in the neighborhood and so we randomly stopped at this location. It was sooooo cute inside, with a nice fish counter and some things to compliment fish. The guy at the counter was friendly (told us the product had been smoked that day), efficient, and helpful.

We ordered a pound of the sugar cured whitefish and half a pound of the sugar cured salmon. After getting them home and trying them, we thought both were delicious. We particularly liked the salmon— the sugar cure was complimentary to the fish but not too sweet.

Also, the pricing was superb. We paid less than $20 for 1.5 lbs of smoked fish!!

We would definitely stop and pick up fish again at Bodin the next time we...

Stopped here a couple of days ago in search of smoked fish and were not disappointed! Salmon, trout, and whitefish, all local. We got some of each in the bone-in variety. Thought we would take some home, but the trout and whitefish were both so good that we finished them both. Will have to stop again to get some to go. Very pleasant person helping us.
