We stopped here earlier this summer and felt something was missing. The business reached out to me and during that conversation, I learned a huge lesson about making waffle cones, ice cream, heat, humidity, volume and everything that goes into the heart of an ice cream shop. I gave them a second chance today and I was not disappointed. Immediately upon entering the shop, the wafting smell as the door opens with a chime, brings you back to childhood and those days of peaceful fun in old, small towns visiting cousins. The waffle cone was excellent. The perfect blend of crisp sweet bite of a cone with melting ice cream while sitting on an old concrete stoop in an historical town by Lake Superior directly up from the dock and the Madeline ferry ride entrance. We've been coming here to Bayfield, Wisconsin, for 25 years enjoying the atmosphere, serenity of the water, the old town shops, peaceful surrounding that can only be found in old fishing towns. Both Bayfield and Madeline Island have history that goes back a long time. The visit is well worth your time and make sure you stop at Sweet and Salty for a Waffle cone or any of their other options.

The ice cream is local and delicious. The waffle cones are just amazing, seriously some of the best cones I have ever had. What beats all of this are the pies! Homemade and made to order! I bought a raspberry peach pie that was sitting on the window seal cooling and went back the next day and ordered a strawberry rubharb pie. Seriously awesome getting to watch them make it. Well worth the trip. Edit: Came back Labor Day weekend of 2019 and is still an amazing place. We like to order a pie and then cruise over to Blue Vista to pick berries while they bake. Well worth a special stop to have a pie made.

Love this store. It has an option for everyone. Even people with allergies are accommodated now with a wider rang of ice cream selections. There are 37 ice cream flavors, a ton of taffy flavors and the fudge and chocolates are home made and delicious. The baked goods are baked fresh everyday and have won many prizes. Do not pass up on the chance to try out the signature Winebreads or pies. The staff are friendly and helpful. It is trully what you look for in a Shoppe.

I’m not sure why this place has favorable reviews. I haven’t been to an ice cream shop that doesn’t allow customers to sample flavors especially when it serves nontraditional flavors. Just like other reviews have pointed out, it seems like a customer will be considered a nuisance if such a request is made.

The staff also need training in customer service. I’ve been to plenty of places with fantastic service workers being teenagers and young adults, but the staff here need work on speaking to customers more nicely. And it’s not about the words said; it’s the delivery and tone of those words that can make customers feel uneasy.

I wasn’t planning on leaving a review until I read through the owner’s responses to those who gave low star ratings. The owner’s defensive behavior and lack of professionalism make me regret coming here. I suggest people...
