First of all, they have the best scones I’ve ever tried and the quality of their matcha is ok. In terms of food/drinks is clear that they’re a solid option in the area. My gf and I were around and went there a couple of days to work. We’ve been on and off roadtripping the country for the last couple of years, working at many many local coffee shops and I’ve never had such an unpleasant experience like the conversation we had with the manager. She approached us during our second day almost accusing us of the wifi poor quality. She said we had many devices while mistakenly counting our external monitors as standalone devices. She said it twice, even as we explained to her they were just monitors connected to our laptops. And even if they were devices, if they want to limit that, they can simply hang a sign, instead of going to tables making feel patrons uncomfortable. Then, as if the wrong count of devices wasn’t enough she said something like “you spent 7 hours here yesterday”. Ok, we did, we didn’t know there was a limit, as a matter of fact, it wasn’t. There’s no a sign saying that either. So I can only guess she said that just to say something mean or make us feel uncomfortable. Also, we were consuming all the time. We spent close to $200 in a couple of days there. I saw a lot of people spending hours there with just a coffee and she never approached any of those. She was very...
Read moreWhere do I start. The coffee itself is fantastic and prepared properly as expected...just like the other Wonderstate locations downstate. Just like the cafe in Madison the staff is announcing the seating area is closing 1 hour before closing time and they are pushing you out the door. I know when you close and I'm going to be gone before you do so let me stay and warn me 15 minutes before you are closing. Pay your staff the extra it requires for them to clean AFTER you close and help make the customers feel valued. Next, there are two drinks in the coffee world that should ALWAYS be served in a demitasse (tiny ceramic/porcelain cup) am espresso shot and a traditional espresso macchiato. You all should know that because you work at an upscale roaster's coffee shop. I didn't ask for the cup with my macchiato because I shouldn't have to so I got a paper cup. Then, you serve my friend the last 1/4 cup of brewed coffee as a free cup with purchase of 2 bags of coffee? Yes, you brewed another fresh one for him and he actually liked that one. The flavor profiles were quite different. So...make fresh coffee. Seems like general laziness from staff. The only location of Wonderstate worth going...
Read moreI went to Kickapoo coffee expecting a pleasant trendy Cafe experience. Which I got. However... The drink I had was sublime. I'm not trying to be over dramatic, but the maple syrup latte here was simply amazing. They didn't pump it full of fake syrup that left it too sweet. No. They used just enough maple syrup to give it a light sweetness and distinct maple syrup taste, but every sip left this lingering 'slightly burnt marshmallow' taste. I wanted to just order those all weekend and forget about the rest of the Bayfield vacation.
Feeling this must have been a fluke, and perhaps a different barrista would turn up new results, I returned the next day to only have that same delicious latte.
I have been unable to recreate this Latte at home with my own Kickapoo coffee and maple syrup. More than once I've considered taking the 5 hour drive north to try it again. At the very least it was good enough for me to write a review months after visiting because I've just disappointed myself with yet another subpar maple syrup latte.
tl;dr - Great coffee shop. You should visit. Consider trying the maple syrup latte so you can dissapoint yourself with future lattes you get at...
