J&P Dry Cleaner & Tailor — Attraction in Belleville

Really disappointing customer service experience. I am a frequent customer over the last year. Have always had nothing but good things to say. Not anymore. I had a silk/polyester blend skirt dry cleaned, and instead of using plastic clips or otherwise draping the skirt over the hanger as one would a pair of pants, the skirt was safety pinned with large safety pins to the paper hanger cover, right at the waist, leaving two large pin holes right at the hips in the silk/polyester blend. I went in and very kindly voiced my displeasure, assuming it was done by an employee or someone who wasn't properly trained. A simple apology would have sufficed, and i would have chalked it up to a mistake and moved on. I was very kind. Instead, the owner got defensive, refused to take accountability, and when I presented him with one of the two alternatives I mentioned above, draping skirt over hanger, he indigently replied that he "doesn't do that". I was appalled and taken aback. I guess instead their protocol is to damage garments rather than take care of them?! Interesting business model if you're in the garment business. Simply owning your mistake as a business owner goes a long way. Instead, I was told that I shouldn't bring the the garment to him, then, if that's how I felt. Well, wish granted, because I won't be bringing any garments back to JP, and neither will my parents nor my sister. JP lost four full time customers over the refusal to apologize and take accountability. Had JP simply owned up to the mistake, or at least apologized, I would have continued patronizing this establishment. It really wasn't even that big of a deal, but the owner made it one. Terrible experience had a very good friend of mine choose this place to fix a small stain on her wedding dress. Now she called this place and specifically asked if they specialize in wedding dresses and they responded yes. So my friend takes her dress here to be cleaned and when she went to go retrieve her dress it was damaged. Her dress isn’t a traditional white it’s more of a satin material ivory color so this place took it upon themselves to wash the dress 4times to get the stain out. In the mist of doing this they flush the ivory color out of the dress and the stain is still there now more potent in color. So instead of fixing the problem they made it 10times worse. To top it off they didn’t offer to refund her money instead said they can wash it again. Wash it again that’s what got us in this situation to begin...

Once again, I left clothes in the cleaners 15 minutes after it had closed. I called the cleaners expecting to get a voice mail but the owner to my surprise picked up. I explained to him that I was going out of town and I desperately needed the clothes that I left for my training. He politely told me that he was closed in Sunday’s however we could open the store if I could be there by 7:00am. I am amazed by his commitment to customer service. Although my purchase only totaled $15 the owner made me feel like I was important and that my needs were greater than his. The service is always spectacular the prices can’t be beat.
