Griffith Furniture & Mattresses — Attraction in Bellingham

We needed a new sofa and looked all around Bellingham but decided to go with one we found at Griffith Furniture for two reasons: we prefer to shop local (especially during the pandemic) and because I appreciated the service; not pushy at all while I was looking, but helpful and available when needed. In mid-October 2020, I purchased a nice sofa that happened to be in the bargain basement and paid cash on the spot. Being it was in the bargain basement, there were no returns allowed. I didn’t think anything of it. Sadly, in early December we noticed that the sofa was creaking badly. We turned it over and opened up the bottom to see what the problem could be. The wood struts were held together by thin staples, not even the heavy carpenter staples, and two of the connector joists had completely fallen off. Poor craftsmanship on Ashley Furniture's part. My husband spent the evening trying to put it back together and fortify it. Now it’s mid-January and it’s creaking AGAIN. We haven’t been over-using this sofa, no one has been jumping up and down on it, and we’ve barely had it 3 months. For a $600 sofa (even being in the bargain basement) one would expect more use. UPDATE: After receiving a response from the owner, John, we now have a local furniture repair man on deck to come to survey to see if the sofa can be fixed. It was great to learn that the sofa actually had a 1-year warranty, that we were completely unaware of and it was fantastic of John to reach out and let us know that we would be taken care of. I increased the rating to 5 stars given the great customer service that Griffith Furniture provides and we're hopeful that we'll have a functioning sofa again soon. I'm still glad that we decided to shop local and I'm now even more glad that our local business supports...

I was looking for a loveseat and decided to buy local. I usually get used furniture, but I loved something I found here and decided to finance it. The delivery drivers couldn’t get it past the foyer, it was too big. There was a complicated deconstruction process, but that would cost $150 plus an additional $60 delivery fee! I asked if this happened often. It seemed like poor design, my hallways are wide. They said yes, in fact, they had couches that had been delivered and returned 5 times for the same issue! Why wasn’t I warned? The salesman knew it was going to an apartment. After the couch went back, I received a call from the store asking when I was going to come in for a different piece of furniture. I told him I didn’t want any other furniture and to cancel my order. I would pay the delivery fee of course. No, they charged me 5% of the original sale plus the delivery delivery fee, $170 total. For nothing. so my choices were to pay an extra $210 to stuff this thing into my apartment and then have to deconstruct it to get it out again or pay $170 and receive nothing. Do I ever regret walking into Griffith furniture! If they charged the same to everybody who returned that one couch 5 times, they made $850 from a single piece of furniture that no one received. Some scam! I called synchrony, paid the delivery fee, and I’m disputing the rest. At least I...
