Historic Austin County Jail Museum — Attraction in Bellville

The docents were fabulous! They had great stories and shared history with our American Heritage Girls troop on Saturday. We were on a trip from the Dallas area and had called ahead to let them know we would have a larger group coming in at noon on the 4th, they had enough volunteers to help is and their regular visitors. When we called ahead they even gave us some area tips for while we were there. They gave us some tips for lunch spots while we were there also. They kept the tour age appropriate since we had younger and older girls and even answered extra questions at the end for those that wanted more info. All the volunteers were excellent! Amazing experience. This place was a lot cooler than I would've ever thought. I'm so glad my fiance and I visited last Saturday. It is one of the coolest places in Austin County. The first floor museum and second floor jail are open to public. Maybe one day the 3rd and 4th floor of the jail will be open. The 5th floor is a half floor mostly where the gallows hung.
