Belmar Bike Shop — Attraction in Belmar

I'm a little disappointed. I live in town, and have been in once before for a random part, which they sold me unlabeled for a few bucks cash (very happy with the service). I stopped in today to ask if they could loosen a freewheel from a hub for me. I do my own work, but I didn't have that specific freewheel tool. Though they didn't seem busy, the guy leaning on the counter when I walked in told me to take a ticket and come back tomorrow. It would have taken more time to get the tool from a tool box than it would have to loosen the freewheel... And, I would have been happy to pay them a few bucks for their time, I know running a business isn't free. I just want to ride my bike to work tomorrow morning. I'll probably give them another shot next time I need something, but Ill have to head over to Glendola today, or maybe up to Cags in Long Branch if I want to ride to work tomorrow.

Nobody took more than a glance at my wheel, let alone a close enough look to know what freewheel was on it. I left about two minutes after I walked in the door, and didn't even put the wheel on the counter for anyone to look at. It took a very common freewheel remover, the Park FR-4. I went to another shop which removed it for me in less than 5 minutes, for free, before I even purchased some tools and a light. It wasn't seized or difficult to remove at all. Though in my initial 3 star review, I mentioned I would try Belmar Bike Shop again, you, sir, have lost my business for good. 6/23 : Stopped in to try on and purchase a full face helmet. Helpful and knowledgeable staff. Very impressive bike shop servicing all types of riders.

Edit 5/15/24 : I have been researching an Ibis DV9 for a while now, Belmar was conveniently located 20 mins from me and had this bike in stock. I was fortunate enough to deal with the owner Kyle and his awesome staff! I was in between a Large and XL and Kyle set me up and helped me determine which was a right fit. They had it set up already with the tires I wanted and got the saddle in the right position and made the necessary adjustments I needed right on the spot! I took the bike straight to the local trail system at allaire and logged 12 miles with a smile ear to ear! This bike is awesome!! It’s important to support local brick and mortar shops like these, and I’m so glad I did. It was a great experience for me and I will be back again for sure. They have so many accessories for every type of rider in stock and a shop full of technicians repairing and assembling bikes. Very impressive operation! Support your local bike shop!!

Me and my wife were looking for some nic beach crusiers .we had been to only two other stores and decided the best place would be bike shop near beach.Low and behold I looked online and always go by reviews. Belmar bike shop had the best,we live in central Jersey and was a 45 min ride for us.We were not disappointed, This bike shop was great,from the moment we walked in. Staff was very knowledgeable and helped in making our decision.Didnt steer us to something we didn't want.Everyone in this place was very nice and helpful.Let us take bikes and ride for a few mins,even made adjustments if we needed.We were sold!!
