I see a lot of potential with the several train cars sitting on the tracks but have seen no movement in the past decades to make them at least sightly to those passing through. I may be mistaken but I don't believe the cars are even open to the public for visiting as a static display and have seen signs to stay off. That's probably because of concerns for safely but they are right out in public viewing distance. Belton had very high water rates and taxes so maybe some of that could be diverted to at least getting the exterior of these...
Read moreWe took the Halloween train ride and had a nice time. The entire train is run by volunteers with proceeds reportedly going to support the non-profit organization. I highly recommend purchasing your tickets ahead on the Internet as we were told all Internet purchases board the train first. Plus, you can pay with a credit/debit card on-line but reportedly not at the train Depot area. The 4 mile ride took about 35 minutes in total and there were games for kids after the ride. Read moreSaw the train after getting some food in the area and stopped to take photos. Stayed long enough to discover that they have train rides on the weekends in late summer and early autumn.
Bought train tickets (onsite but can purchase online also) and had a wonderful 40-minute total trip.
Great photo opportunities.
The staff were friendly, and I’m glad I got to talk to the retired train mechanic who shared a lot of great information with me.
