Hall's Garden Center & Florist — Attraction in Berkeley Heights

I came to Hall's after reading the reviews and it did not steer me wrong. All of the employees were very friendly and helpful here, making this my new go-to nursery. I've never had much of a green thumb and it's late in the season which would explain why the selection was not as full as it probably was just a couple months ago. But I wanted to start a little potted herb garden to cook from and was using this moment as a learning experience. Next year I'll move up to potted vegetables. After feeling a little overwhelmed on what to get or how to keep it alive, Bob came to the rescue. This place was close to closing and that did not stop Bob from giving me a plethora of advice instead of rushing me out the door. He was super honest in what was worth growing at this point and what my expectations should be whilst giving tons of suggestions and little tutorials on what to do with my plants when I got home. He even threw a free roma plant in the mix after I told him I really wanted to grow plum tomatoes next. AND the herbs were HALF PRICE! This was not the Hall's experience that this usually friendly, quality neighborhood garden center has been known for. I ordered a boutoniere for a senior prom, however, when I picked up the boutoniere it was not the product that I ordered. The manager claimed that while it was not what I ordered, it was a different boutoniere, but that I should be happy with it anyway. She did not take any responsility for her mistake. She did not make the boutoniere that I ordered, and wanted me to accept a totally different boutoninere. The shop never called me to inform me about this inorder to discuss a solution or give me a chance to get the boutoniere that I wanted from another vendor since they could not deliver the product to me. I am very disappointed in how the manager handled her mistake. She gave me a totally different product and just wanted me to accept it. I went there last year in the the ugliest 30yr old Sanford and Son truck and yet was was amazed that the kids working there were not on there phones and in mass loaded up my truck with the items i bought like I was the most important client they had.... This year the same thing, not one kid is on the phone. My wife and I were asked in the parking lot what were were looking for by a kid who meant it. When the young man didn't know he brought me to the manager that did. The manager took care of us and treated our little purchase like we were life long buddies and biggest client. 100% sincerity.... and that was the manager that did the hiring. This place is the only place I will buy plants, soil, Mulch.... weather they hire the best people or set them straight about why they are there I am not sure, but it is rare to find any business like this. They are 3x farther away than where I have been going but...
