While the Route 54 staff is extremely friendly and accommodating, please do not rent a pontoon boat from them. The company they use to contract their boats is unsafe and unprofessional. We had 2 experienced boat captains in our group. Not long after we got out on the water, the spedometer, depth monitor, and gas gage was no longer working. When we questioned the manager, he told us that a working spedometer and gas tank is not necessary. On our way back, we had issues with the propeller and what we thought might be the motor. Our experienced boaters were concerned about a serious problem. We called them to let them know we were running behind due to an issue with the boat (we were approximately 15 minutes behind at that point). They were never concerned about the safety of our passengers or the safety of the people that were supposed to be boarding the boat after us. Our captain explained that we were concerned about safety and he told us we were in the mud. We were way out past the buoys. When we returned, the Route 54 staff apologized as the manager was looking at the wrong boats numbers to say where we were. We asked for someone to come and get us. He hung up on us and we finally made it back before he made it to us. He didn't get to us because he was tracking the wrong boat. When we returned the boat only 20 minutes late due to propellor and motor issues, and requested to speak to the manager. The manager yelled and patronized me and told me that gages aren't necessary, and that I had taken out a brand new boat. I feel bad for the people that he proceeded to put on that boat and their safety. I want to emphasize that Route 54 staff was professional and courteous and super helpful. Read moreWe bought 1 hour. We were driven into the Assawoman Bay in Maryland. The waves there were very high (2-3 feet high). The jetski is definitively not made for this situation - for beginner riders - at least. We (3 persons on one jetski: 1 dad two kids 11 and 9 year old) fell into the water five times. The jetski should only be ridden with 1 person in such rough sea. The water splashes into one's face at high speeds relentlessly. Goggles SHOULD BE REQUIRED OR DISTRIBUTED BY THE COMPANY for this HIGH WAVE SALTWATER BAY.The guide helped us (he did a great job -- earned 5 stars)). However, I was very disappointed about the highly stressful situation. THE COMPANY ASKS the client to fill out an elaborate QUESTIONNAIRE that takes 15 minutes before the ride can start. However the company DOES NOT PROVIDE IMPORTANT INFORMATION regarding the higher skills required to ride these vehicles with multiple persons in rough waters with high waves. The company should offer alternative locations OR WARN THE CLIENT THAT WATERS ARE ROUGH and recommend to rent in the morning when the waters are supposedly CALMER IN THE ASSAWOMAN BAY, MD. Read moreWe booked 3 jet skis for a Saturday, but when we arrived, there were 0 employees there. When we called, we spoke with someone poorly trained on customer service who told us we should not have been able to book this day + they are no longer booking for the season. Well, we were able to book and did so almost 1 month in advice, paid for in full. Their recent FB posts also beg to differ with being closed for the season. After they argued that we should not have been able to book, instead of taking a responsibility, they hung up on us. Some of our family traveled by plane to make this Ocean City trip, and we only had the full day Saturday to spend together. Instead of being able to rearrange our plans, we showed up to jet ski with no notice of the trip being cancelled, or even acknowledged for that matter. We still received a booking reminder email the day prior + a thank you email the day after. Our day was mostly a bust thanks to this company, and I am out $386 until I receive the refund. Someone did call us back after we were hung up on, but they gave no reason as to why we did not receive any notice of cancellation.
