I had a very bad experience at a dog park in Dallas. My dog was a Golden Retriever, 4-5 months old at the time. I had my eye on my dog constantly. Good thing I did because an adult Pit Bull came charging at my dog and had him pinned on his back in no time. I ran to my dog 🐕, yelling "Whose dog is this"? No response. I yelled many times with nobody responding. My only defense was using my feet to try to push the Pit away. The Pit was starting to bite my foot, in Tennis Shoes - with no protection. I'm desperate by now, afraid my dog would be hurt, or that I would be. I yelled as loud as I could while I kicked the dog in the head. Amazingly - the owner came towards us with a beer in his hand - yelling "What the Fxxx are you doing kicking my dog? I yelled back. "Because he's trying to kill my dog and you're not controlling him". I said I've been yelling for over 5 minutes for this dog's owner and nobody came. He said "Well you don't have the right to be kicking my dog. " I didn't bother with a response, just took my dog out and did a thorough inspection of him looking for injuries. Luckily he just had one wound behind his ear with very little bleeding. We had to walk past the Pit owner's seating area to get out of the park and I noticed he had a cooler full of beer, many empties and some full. Blue Springs dog park js my kind of park. All owners had eyes on their dogs. If any dog 🐕 got a little too rowdy…, the owner put their dog in his place. There are a few solid/stable agility like equipment to help the dogs stay entertained. Sorry this is long, but I want you guys that are looking for a good park - to know a key element to make a good park. Look around and see if the people are paying attention...
Read moreThe dog park is in bad shape and needs a lot of work. The obstacles are old and the paint is chipping. We need to add a lot more mulch to the entire park. We can get the mulch for free from a service called Chip Drop. They will deliver it to the park, but we will have to move it ourselves. We can organize a volunteer effort to do this. We can bring our wheelbarrows, shovels, and rakes and start spreading the mulch from the back of the park. We can also ask local businesses to donate water, soft drinks, and food for the volunteers.
Anyone can use Chip Drop to get free mulch.
The most important thing is to get the park cleaned up and safe for the dogs.
Hey, listen up! The water at the dog park is totally messed up. It's full of algae and bacteria like E. coli and Salmonella, and even parasites like Giardia and Cryptosporidium. Plus, there's this nasty bacterial disease called Leptospirosis that can mess up your dog's kidneys and liver.
And get this, the water is not even moving! It's just sitting there, all stagnant and gross. No wonder it smells so bad!
We need to do something about this. We could install a water feature, like a waterfall or a sprinkler, to keep the water moving and oxygenated. That would help get rid of all the nasty stuff.
I know there might not be power at the park, but there are solar-powered options. We could mount a solar panel up high in a tree to prevent theft.
Come on, let's make this happen for our furry friends! They deserve a clean and safe place to...
Read moreI don't go to the dog park area, it's sometimes a bit muddy and lots of fences not picked up so I take my dog walking at Lake Rememberence on the trail with her harness and leash. For the most part, people there are respectful and just out doing the same walking or fishing off to the side, so it's a pleasant walk, especially now that the trail is paved completely around. Of course there are many people that just leave giant piles of dog poo even though they provide baggies to pick it up at several places near the entrance areas (there are two)!! I can say that's the only thing that annoys me here so I can deal with that. Also, just sometimes the lake is has trash all around the edges due to either people just leaving picnic leftovers or not throwing stuff away They do have several trash receptacles around the pond but I have witnessed younger kids completely take the trash and dump it in the lake for some reason. No this does not happen Everytime I go, it's probably a bit dirty 1/3rd of the time I even go so no intolerable and I still love going. The trash bags need to be changed but I don't know who is in charge of that every day. Despite all the yuck that CAN be around, it's still a nice walk for the dog and she absolutely loves it! I've never fished there, but it's plenty big to fish all around or by boat, cable or kayak...
