Ever since day one this school has been giving me nothing but difficulties. When I started out, I asked information where the biology major office was, they sent me to the wrong room. After that the people at that office sent me to another room which in turn sent me to another. When I had to show proof of my Florida residency they gave me a hard time about it too even though I was going to palm beach state college prior to that. A lot of the professors are arrogant and unhelpful, the ones who teach the labs are graduate students, so I'm paying to be taught by a student instead of the professor. The organic lab class I had to take docks you on points if you're a minute late despite difficulty with traffic. I live an hour away from campus and I leave 1:30 minutes before hand. I dropped the class because obviously I didn't want to start off with a bad grade. But now I just wasted two credits because they give you one week from the start of class to drop with a refund. Even though this class didn't start until a week after the refund date. The after school help was a joke I would show up all the time and then find out that no one was there without an email or notice about why. The parking is terrible you probably have better luck finding a parking spot at an outback steakhouse on a Friday night then you would at FAU. Not to mention the city itself is miserable, by the time you wade through Glades road traffic then stalk someone for a parking spot it feels like so much time was wasted. Did I mention I got a parking ticket for a car that wasn't mine? The car had the same exact license plate as a rental I had to use last year because my other car totaled...on the way to Boca HELLton. So I used it for a little while until I got my permanent car and I even registered it for a decal. I deactivated the rental car..or thought I did. Loh and behold someone else rented a car from the same place I did, parked in a metered area, and I get the ticket! Despite the fact that I deactivated it and had my permanent car activated. Another time, I got a ticket because they were turning a student designated parking area into a medical student parking area so I got a parking ticket for parking there even though it was unmarked. I checked it thoroughly too, there were no signs until the day after. There are so many things wrong with this school that I could write a book. But to end this review, choose another school I've had friends go elsewhere that were much happier there. FAU is a sinkhole, I wish I...
Read moreI am writing this review on behalf of to show my deep and utmost respect for this school that I have graduated from recently. FAU is a fantastic school for what its worth, a place where one can commute daily and get a great education at a competitive cost.
As an English major I was taught to see things from all sides of the playing feel at to meet everything with the utmost respect and understanding.
I was not here when the most highly publicized event took place, so I can only comment on what I have experience and read from the various articles that give their own view of the situation. It is to my understanding that the teacher himself a Christian man, in an effort to show how symbols operate within a society and how people feel strongly about them would react to a situation that they were offered. One of the students felt so strongly about this lesson that he did not want to participate and that was fine, the only reason he was kicked from the classroom is because he responded in an inappropriate way because he was threatening to hurt the teacher.
FAU is by no means a school of ignorance or religious intolerance, I even recall having a student who was Christian and met every debate with her religious ideals and at no point did we as a class insult her beliefs, which at times was very difficult. We have open discussions on campus of people doing protests against abortion, for religion, and etc.
I am truly disappointed and ashamed that when even in 2013, a school that I went to can be reviewed by people who have never been or have heard of Florida Atlantic University until recent events. Personally I blame media outlets which seem to write highly biased stories seeking to attract a wider audience by with-holding key information of the things that took place during the event. All I ask is that people try to meet every piece of information with an understanding that it may be wrong and that things are as not always...
Read moreIts one of the few schools you can watch grow and be apart of the history. The Academics is great and contantly improving. The school has great history beyond being a school since it was a military base that trained the pilot who bombed Hiroshima and the Library holds important national artifacts. The athletics are improving, with baseball, softball, and diving amongst the schools consistently good sports. All sports are free for students to attend. Even the cheapest dorms are really nice compared to FSU or UF, and the campus isnt so big you NEED a bike, as a walk to class is less than 10 minutes. The weather is consistently warm year round, and the beach is less than 3 miles away. You are going to school where people hope to vacation, and places like Delray Beach, Ft.Lauderdale, Miami, and the Florida Keys are all within a few hours at the farthest. Pro sports teams like the Marlins, Dolphins, Panthers, and Launch are also close by. International soccer teams frequent the stadium so there is always a chance to see your favorite national team or club team. The campus is very safe, and the City of Boca Raton is also quite safe with some of the lowest crime rates in the state. The parking could be better, the problem is not that you wont have a spot, its that the spot may not be as close as you would like but it is a short walk. This school really is a hidden gem that is overlooked for universities with...
