Bunker Hill Museum — Attraction in Boston

We visited on a Tuesday afternoon in mid-June 2025. It was actually the 250th Anniversary that day.

There were tons of people and ranger. There was security everywhere and park rangers. It was like a all hands on deck situation. There were special events going on and tents and news crews.

We did not plan this, it just happened to be the day we were in town and planned to visit.

You walk in on the street level and actually kind of go up half a floor to the second floor where the main info desk is and the small gift shop. There are also a few exhibits on this floor. There are more exhibits and awesome diorama show that plays and goes through the battle of bunker hill.

You can go down to the 1st floor where the restrooms are.

The national park service passport cancellation stamps are located on the info desk to the right. There are a few different stamps here.

They ran out of junior ranger booklets here and told us to try the Bunker Hill Monument to see if they had some over there.

Overall it was a nice visit. We would probably not visit again as we saw everything we wanted to. We may visit again just to climb up the Bunker Hill Monument if we...

Great museum! And the gift shop gifts are mostly (maybe all [?]) made in the US!

The museum is free, and has information on the famous fight itself, as well as an intricate diorama with an audio track explaining the fight. There are authentic artifacts on display from the battle itself, including a real British marching drum.

The diorama is highly detailed and it shows why the fight was able ot occur at all: this was pasture country (just like the pastures in the UK) and there were already walls built presumably to prevent the animals from wandering away. Thus, when the colonials fortified a position overnight, the position became very difficult to take from the British perspective. Add to that disastrous street fighting in Charleston itself and the colonials' tendencies to snipe the well-trained officers... And you have the pyrrhic victory for the British. I don't even know if you could call it victory since the siege was...
