We were craving oysters one day and discovered this gem mentioned on Boston Eater! It's every Monday starting at 5pm going to 10pm which was perfect for us!
We arrived at 5pm sharp and luckily there was ample street parking around the corner of Main Street which was fantastic (especially when compared to Boston...).
First thing the stuck out to me was the interior. I really loved the high ceilings and the rustic feel to the place from all the wooden furniture. It really added to a relaxing atmosphere for us.
For the oysters they have 3 options. Beach Point, Mookie Blues and Island Creek oysters. We decided to get a dozen so we had a good sampling of each. Our favorite was the Mookie blue with it's salty-yet-sweet taste. If you really enjoy a saltiness to your oysters then the Beach Points are your go-to. The Island Creek oysters were somewhere in the middle.
The bread provided was also pretty good with a twist being instead of butter you get a ricotta cheese infused with a dash of honey and olive oil spread. It imparts a pleasant sweet texture that isn't overly heavy when combined with the bread.
For our main meal we decided on:
Pimento Sliders ($12) - This was an eye opener as the pimento cheese really melded with the juicy burger patties and bacon jam. Quite messy but oh my did we wish this was a standard item on the menu! (Pleeease!)
Salmon Poke bowl ($15) - Quite fresh and the salmon was delicious! The rice was a bit stiff and bland however.
Slow braised short rib ($27) - This was also quite good. The rib is extremely tender and savory. The mac and cheese sauce isn't overly thick (and thus won't overtake the ribs). Definitely delicious though I wish there was another slab of it since it's a bit pricey for what we got.
Our server was fantastic and very knowledgeable. We'll...
Read moreLocated in Charlestown, MA, a beautiful quaint town outside of Boston is the home of Monument. A gastropub serving up fun cocktails and delicious bites. As you walk in, you notice expansive bar seats and weathered wood beams throughout this lively establishment. They have an open wood burning stove where they make thin crust pizzas that are fresh and made to order. Their weekly specials at the bar range from $1 oysters to specialty tacos that keep the menu interesting. This is a great spot for a weekend brunch or a date night! I've been a handful of times and loved every experience. My most recent visit, I started with a red sangria. It was delicious! For an app, decided on the street corn arancini. Not what I expected, but happy with my choice. Outside was crispy, and the inside had a creaminess to it filled with sweet corn, cheese, and risotto. Topped with a sauce to give it that street corn kick, while the arancini was placed on a bed of red marinara sauce. Yum! For my meal I went with the steak and cheese. This is my second time ordering it, and I am OBSESSED! The steak was tender and juicy with melted American cheese. There was arugula, sweet and hot peppers, caramelized onions, and truffle aioli served on fresh ciabatta. Absolutely delicious! It came with a choice of side salad, fries, or half and half. I love the option of half and half! The fries were crispy and salty and the salad was well dressed topped with grated cheese. This place NEVER disappoints and will continue to be a staple in my...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I had just flown in to town and had researched some nice places for dinner. This was my suggestion. I was told there was a 25 to 30 minute wait; no big deal. Ok, waiting. There's no where to stand/wait inside, as there's much traffic coming through the front door to serve outside seating and of course, others walking in. AN HOUR AND 10 MINUTES LATER, We were sat at a very small table right in between 2 other couples. I was literally bumping elbows with one of them, they're that close. The 2 females to my right were obnoxiously loud and crass. I ordered a Cocktail (dad bod summer?) which was brought to me with something black floating in it, and the waitress said, "oh it's just mint" and was going to leave it for me to drink as she stood there a minute longer. I looked at her and pushed it away, like no, I'm not drinking this. I was a little put off by that. She then took it back and bought "a new one" probably strained it and put it back in the same cup. I then ordered margarita pizza which was burnt beyond being edible. I understand the concept of "wood fired pizza", but this was blackened throughout, with barely any sauce or cheese. Bf got the burger which he said was great. What a disappointment from beginning to end. Waiting over an hour for bugs in my drink, awful seating and didn't even end up eating. What a great first experience...
