There are some thing that makes the Boston Habitat for Humanity ReStore stand out. The first is the lumber/moulding section. I have never seen another section where trim and moulding is sorted so carefully and displayed in a way that conveys clarity and communicates a visual organization. If you are looking for that one length to replace a damaged section, this might be the right place to save money and get what you need.
Next to the lumber section were appliances. But the second thing to really notice was an aisle in the store where light fixtures were hanging from the ceiling. On either side of the aisle were more collections of household items to inspect and curate. It was not overwhelming, but I recommend taking your time to observe all of the things on display and for sale.
The furniture section was large, and so was the collection of exercise machines that looked like they were actually of some value.
Take your time here, and recognize that it is in the back of a very large building that is off of a very busy roadway. Patience and curiosity are great virtues when you're...
Read moreTEMPTED TO KEEP IT A SECRET. I have to say this place is a real find. I stumbled onto it by accident while shopping at neighboring JoAnn's. I'm reticent to give it a good review because I kind of want it to stay "my little secret."
The basic deal is that this is a place for homeowners to donate their furniture, appliances, fixtures and whatnot when renovating or redecorating, which they then resell for ridiculously low prices. I bought a practically new washing machine and a really nice dryer for $150 total! They have amazing furniture items, some of which are antiques, and also a lot of lamps and fixtures, and stuff like fireplaces. Their furniture is priced exceptionally low, even lower than a typical thrift shop (I'm a thrift store maven). A great place to shop if you are remodeling or redecorating or need to get some appliances and don't want to pay an arm and a leg. Plus the revenues go to Habitat for Humanity, so it's pretty much all good. Shhhh....don't tell anyone. Let's keep it our...
Read moreThe ReStore was a huge find for me. I had one week to completely furnish a 1 bedroom apartment. I was able to find all of my furniture at the ReStore for about $600 total. There is a great selection - about 30 different couches, 30 dressers, tons of tables, kitchen chairs etc. so lots of selection to choose from. It was nice to be able to see them in person and pick your favourite. Reasonable prices and a discount if you bring it home the same day. They will reserve the item for 3 days if you pay. They even helped us pack our Uhaul so that we only needed one trip. The staff were patient and helpful. What a great environmentally friendly and convenient option. Lots of parking. It gets busy on Saturday so try to come early to get the best selection. So happy to be supporting this...
