Another 3 of my favorite trails in Boulder! There are footholds carved into the rock! β˜€οΈ Mount Sanitas and Sanitas Valley Loop - Distance: 3.2 miles - Elevation Gain: 1,256 ft. - Difficulty: Hard ➜ Glute killer! Lots of steps. - Notes: Take your time on the way down. A few steep portions, but nothing too scary! I have a crazy fear of heights so I’d tell you! Mostly tree-covered hike up the mountain to almost the peak. This is about a 3-mile hike, which has good pacing. The hike up the treeline is steep, but if you can make it past the sun and the grade, you will survive to the summit. This trail can get pretty busy; we went at 9:30 AM and finished at 12:15 PM. As you get up, the trail is pretty rocky, so wear some trail shoes or boots. People started when we came down, so you could hike all day. Paid Parking is available, but there is a shuttle you can take as well. We did this hike to acclimate to the area before doing a 14k, but it would be a nice hike on a summer or fall day. Also, as you go up, there are many trails, so you can split off mid-way if you find it too much. This trail is popular with the Colorado University locals, and I can see why.

The beginning of this trail is some of the best views of the flatirons in town! I am a photographer and love using this spot for photo session. This area has so much natural beauty and is very accessible. I'd highly recommend coming here to take in the views or use this for a photo spot!
