The Royal Arch Trail in Boulder is a breathtaking hiking destination that offers an unforgettable outdoor experience. Nestled in the stunning Flatirons, this trail is a favorite among locals and visitors alike, known for its challenging terrain, rewarding views, and natural beauty. Starting at the Chautauqua Trailhead, the hike to Royal Arch is approximately 3.5 miles round trip, with an elevation gain of about 1,400 feet. The trail is well-marked and maintained, winding through a diverse landscape of lush forests, rocky outcrops, and scenic meadows. As you ascend, you'll encounter steep sections and rocky steps, making it a moderately difficult hike that provides a great workout. The highlight of the hike is, of course, the Royal Arch itself. This impressive rock formation, carved by natural forces over millennia, frames a stunning view of Boulder and the surrounding plains. Reaching the arch feels like a true accomplishment, and the panoramic vistas from this vantage point are nothing short of spectacular. It's a perfect spot to rest, take photos, and soak in the beauty of the Colorado wilderness. Wildlife sightings are common along the trail, adding to the sense of adventure. You might see deer, birds, and other local fauna as you make your way to the arch. The trail is especially beautiful in the spring and fall, when wildflowers bloom and the foliage turns vibrant shades of red and gold. Overall, the Royal Arch Trail is a must-do for any hiking enthusiast visiting Boulder. Its combination of challenging climbs, stunning scenery, and the iconic Royal Arch make it a hike that leaves a lasting impression. Whether you're a seasoned hiker or just looking for a memorable outdoor adventure, the Royal Arch Trail delivers a truly rewarding experience.

Conditions on 06/25/2023 -Very dry almost 90 percent of the trail with some muddy portions -Arrived at 8:30 on a Sunday and just found one parking spot. Paid parking during weekends and holidays at $2.50 per hour - Make sure you are well hydrated as the elevation gain can get tiresome at times. The rocky areas provide a good workout - Wear lots of sunscreen during summer

My friend and I hiked this trailhead for the 1st time last Saturday. It was an awesome and pretty challenging hike!! We had great weather too! I loved the serenity of walking among the trees. Very rocky terrain as you get closer to the top, make sure to wear good hiking shoes or boots, and bring plenty of water. Amazing views at the top!!
