Read moreReally had a great time here with my family when we were visiting from New York- the highlight however weren't the dinosaurs or exhibits but seeing a celebrity there, which I feel as if I can say now, MANDY MOORE and her family were there (who I grew up LOVING and still do, she looked as beautiful as ever! )
I didn't want to disturb her time with family? As I was also with family but Mandy if you see this- I love you, you are a queen and I hope you had a wonderful time with those you love.
I wish I could have said hello, but I know how important family time is as I drove from New York to Montana to spend time with mine, so I was not going to disturb someone else's.
Also the exhibits were in-depth and interesting! I enjoyed the "living homestead/farm" as I'm a homesteader and home maker and really love that vibe. I think it's important to show case these things- how we lived versus how we are living. I liked seeing the sheep wagon which I saw a more in-depth version of at a different museum in Wyoming on my way to Montana.
I didn't take many photos but there were several sensory play areas within the exhibits and that was a plus for our kids in the group. There's rotating exhibits so my family in Montana goes here often, but one exhibit is currently being switched out which significantly decreased the time of our stay.
Still, it was worth the visit to learn about what archeologist are finding in this area and have discovered about dinosaurs, and is comparable in price to some of our New York State museums.
However, I'd say the exhibits are on the smaller size and it is a museum you only plan to spend 1-4 hours at if your truly reading everything and have children who will cooperate, versus some larger ones that are a minimum 3 hour adventure.
In the future- I'd like to see a discount for when partial exhibits are down or alternative exhibits are in place. We did not utilize the planetarium or other parts which could have extended our stay. I do think the $5.00 for bonus attractions is a reasonable price.
Will visit again during my next...
Read moreUPDATE: Still an amazing museum. This time we were able to catch a show in the planetarium called "Incoming!". The show was about meteors and meteorites. Very educational, fun and informative.
They still have all the amazing fossil exhibits. This time they focused on the Maiasaurous and it's how it became Montana's state fossil.
WOW! I am impressed!! I am an out of state visitor spending a week in Bozeman for outdoor adventuring. Took a day off to rejuvenate from all the activities. Decided to go to the museum to see some dinosaur fossils. I had my doubts as most exhibits of this nature have very few real fossil, with most being small and unimpressive or fossil impressions on rocks.
I was COMPLETELY wrong and TOTALLY blown away by the exhibits.
We paid about $12/person for admission which included the WHOLE museum and ALL of the exhibits. I believe regular admission for an adult is $14.50. We were given a 10% discount for having a AAA membership. They also give other discounts as well.
We first ventured into the exhibit for Children's literature illustrations. What a facinating exhibit. They detailed the life and history of many famous children's book illustrators including: Dr. Seuss, Maurice Sendak, Richard Scary, and many, many others.
We then ventured over to the Dinosaur exhibits. It started mild as most do with the beginnings of the Earth's formation and the evolution of plants and animals. We walked around the next corner, and BAM! full on fossils with detailed and easy to digest informational plaques. We then walked into the adjoining room and SHA-ZAM!! FULL SIZED T-REX on display. The T-Rex was amazing but the highlight of this last room was the high quality and various sizes of the Triceratops display. WOW!
Amazing place and completely worth the visit. Add to that the exhibits we didn't have time to see, such as the planetarium shows, the Yellowstone exhibit with a Children's hands on Yellowstone exhibit, all for less than the cost of lunch. AND your admission pass is good for TWO days!!
MOR definitely...
