I've got mixed feelings about this spot, on one hand they have a wide selection of unique food from other countrys that you cant find at most other stores and their sandwiches are awesome.
However, on my last experience to the store i purchased 2 combo dishs and a bun bao. The steam rolls that i had in one of the combo dish were mushy and inedible and the shrimp and veggies that i had in the other dish were the same way along with the rice which smelt like sewage.
When i opened up the Bun Bao package I noticed that their was mold growing off of it and not just a little mold, this was literally an inch thick. It had a sell by date of the previous day which is hard to believe considering how much mold was on it. This definitely made me question the other slop that I just tried to eat.
I called Scott, the manager of the store and informed him of the mold that was found on my food. He completely brushed me off and was not concerned at all. He assured me that they are delivered fresh daily and there was no way I could have mold on mine (as im clearly and obviously looking at the mold and telling him otherwise).
His lack of concern was amazing and speaks in volumes for the cleanliness of the store.
I asked for the number of the corporate office so that i could talk to someone who does care and he gave me a number that just continued to ring with no voice mail or greeting.
Conclusion: Horrific health-code violations and terrible management.
If you do chose to shop here be wary of what you are buying and the...

If you use to 'Americana' grocery stores, this is NOT a place for you. This is a true Asian market: the fruits/produce area is constantly moving(there is a team working constantly to move the items), a very large seafood section(I think it is the largest in the Twin Cities), a very nice deli (hot/cold foods), a huge butcher/meat selection. Yes, there is distinct smell to the place - I usually associate with an Asian market. Did I say they do sell fresh Duran (If you have to ask then you don't understand).
Here are few 'negatives': Their Japanese foods are lacking: i.e. No japanese mayo (Kewpie Brand is a must!) It has a lot of 'Asian' things, to say it is catered to a certain ethic? That is a stretch. In other words, if you are looking for something your grandma would use back in our home land? This is not that.
Yes, I am Vietnamese and usually prefer a Vietnamese grocery for my needs...
It is really hard to compare to Dragon Star with the amount of fruits/produce and seafood. NOBODY (including any American store) can compete on the volume of seafood...
