“I’d like to update my review and thank Mark and the team for resolving the issue with my Wetland Shelter reservation. They were able to accommodate me and find a solution, which I truly appreciate. While the initial communication was frustrating, I’m grateful for their prompt follow-up and look forward to my upcoming event”.

As a tax-paying resident, I am writing to formally express my frustration and disappointment with the handling of my reservation for the Wetland Shelter at Harvester Park.

In February 2025, I contacted Mark to inquire about renting the Wetland Shelter for July 2025. Mark confirmed the date was available, and I submitted the reservation application, which was subsequently approved. Based on this confirmation, I committed to several non-refundable deposits for rentals, catering, and decorations.

However, less than a week later, Mark informed me that the shelter was no longer available due to a Park District summer event being scheduled for that date. This scheduling conflict was not disclosed during the reservation process or mentioned in the application. Had I known that Park District events could override existing reservations, I would not have proceeded without assurance of the venue’s availability.

I expressed my concerns to Mark, highlighting the financial implications and the inconvenience caused to my out-of-town family, who had already made travel arrangements. Mark acknowledged the oversight, stating he was unaware of the planning committee’s event schedule and would explore alternative dates. Unfortunately, he never followed up. Instead, I later received a brochure detailing summer events, including the very date I had reserved.

This experience has been deeply frustrating and disappointing. The lack of effective communication and transparency has led to unnecessary financial loss and significant inconvenience...

Bird Ridge Park is one of the best parks around! It’s huge, with plenty of space for everyone to enjoy. Whether you’re here with little ones or older kids, there’s something for everyone. The playground has a great variety of equipment, making it perfect for toddlers and big kids alike.

One of the standout features is how well-maintained everything is. The park is clean, the restrooms are stocked with toilet paper (which is rare for public parks!), and there’s plenty of seating if you just want to relax.

It’s especially beautiful in the spring and summer—a perfect place for a stroll, a picnic, or just getting fresh air. There’s also lots of green space, making it great for casual walks or just soaking up nature.

This park is a little gem. It has so much to do for the kids, the playground is huge and has a lot of different parts. There are plenty of benches, but people do bring their own chairs and blanket to lay out on the lawn. It can be a little loud since there is a music portion and little kids love to go bang on them.
